Very good and precice mouse. The scroll wheel has a button that can change it from smooth scrolling to choppy-normal scrolling (imagine flicking the scroll wheel and it scrolls for about 11-14 seconds before it stops).
I like the feature where you can increase the precision and sensitivity of the mouse with the 2 frontal buttons on the left side. These you can set to 5 different settings which would be good if you're doing photo editing and need the cursor to move more slowly to be more precice with the work. Also these buttons are located pretty nicely on the mouse so that there isn't a way to accidently increase/decrease the sensitivity.
the mouse feels/holds pretty well also -but most do. The one thing that was different about the casing/shell is the rough surface where your thumb, 4th and pinky fingers sit; this gives a better grip.
I'm extremely pleased with this.
I like the fact that there is company like Logitech who employ people who are gaming enthusiasts. Even though this is classified as a gaming mouse, it still has great appeal as an everyday mouse.
The feel of the mouse is comfortable to use. The construction is well made. The mouse is plug and play out of the box, but install the Setpoint software for additional control. The mouse and the software run on Windows 7 without any issues.
I have a G9 mouse but prefer the G500. The size of the G500 is slightly larger than the G9, which I like. The control of the cursor is smooth. You can switch the DPI's on the fly. You can also change between free wheel scrolling and click scrolling at the touch of a button on top! Great feature. There are side buttons that you can program.
You are supplied with a set of weights to customize your mouse. You can store your profiles in the mouse for portability in gaming.
The G500 is recommended as a game or everyday mouse.
The Logitech Gaming Mouse G500 is an upgrade of its G5 mouse in many ways.

In addition, the G500 has these features:
Ten programmable buttons, which include five side buttons (G5 has only two).
Dual-mode (with-click and without-click) scroll wheel with hyper-fast scrolling.
On-the-fly adjustable DPI from 200 to 5,700 dpi, in steps of 100 dpi.
Along the sides of the grip area, instead of the rubber-like feel of the G5, the G500 has a sort of like sand paper type of coarse surface. This is not a problem for me. Both kinds of grip surfaces are non-slip, but the rubber-like grip surface on the G5 and earlier mice may become sticky and uncomfortable to the touch in warm and humid climates.
As I use this mouse for both games and applications, I like the two buttons near the index finger which I program them to do scrolls up and down. Although there is the scroll wheel, I usually prefer buttons over the wheel for lesser effort and more precise control. In terms of durability, it is comforting to know that the G500's left and right buttons are rated for 8 million clicks and those tiny feet can travel up to 250 kilometers before wearing out! This mouse has a 3-year limited hardware warranty.
Overall, the ergonomics (shape of mouse, location and number of buttons, adjustable weight) of this mouse is much improved over the G5 and MX500/MX518. With even better specifications, you can really tune this mouse to your exact liking.
I bought the G500 little while ago, and its easily the best mouse i've ever used. The shape is perfect for my hand, it feels totally natural (claw grip people might not agree, though). The sides are textured to provide better grip (plus it just feels cool). One huge thing for me was that the cable that connects the mouse to the computer is cloth-like, which prevents it from bunching up as annoyingly as my plastic cable-mice have done. I didnt see that mentioned anywhere in the description, and it doesnt seem like much, i know, but it was a nice bonus.
The mouse is super-accurate, DPI is easy to adjust (and the on-mouse display provides a great way to see what DPI you're currently on), and macros are easy to program to any of the buttons. The side buttons are easy to press, and shaped so it is easy to distinguish which button is which, even without looking and under emergency situations. The free-spin / clicky mouse wheel toggle button is cool, and works well. The adjustable weight is a nice idea, and im sure some people enjoy it, but i cant really tell the difference myself, so i'll refrain from commenting on that.
The mouse looks great, and I've only had it for about a week, but as long as it proves to be durable, I dont think there's a single thing I dislike about this mouse
i use many gaming mouse but i think these one is one of the best is easy 2 used.
I bought this mouse for my husband for gaming and he loves it. The fact you can change the weight is a huge plus for gamers. He also says he didn't notice the delay with his old mouse didn't even know he had one until he started using this one. The precision on this mouse is awesome!
I love the Logitech G500, finally making the upgrade from the MX518. I tried the G5 but didn't like the texture of the mouse, but the G500 brings the best feel of both the MX518 and G5 into one mouse. Fits nicely in the hands, a lot of customizable buttons, and the option to weight tune the mouse is just a few of the many features. The low friction cord is also great because I usually have a lot of things on my desk and hated when the older rubber cord would interrupt the movement of my mouse gestures. It does have a worn look to it, but i think it gives it an edgy look plus the Logitech logo has lasted longer than it did on my MX518. If you're looking to buy a new mouse, this is the one to get, it's the best mouse I have ever owned I wouldn't hesitate to buy another.
this is a great gaming mouse.adding the weight for what you need is great Idea.
I wasn't expecting to immediately like this mouse more than my old one because people say it usually takes a week or so to get used to a gaming mouse. That was not the case for me. Moving my old mouse quickly over certain surfaces confused it, but this thing stays right on track and it seems impossible to confuse it. I have fairly large hands and it seems just right in size. The two wheel settings are just so slick and easy to switch between. In the smooth setting the wheel will spin with virtually no friction for maybe 15 seconds so you scroll to the end of a long web page (or swap to your 32nd gun) with one flick. The weight adjustment and speed adjustment are equally slick and easy.
The one thing that strikes me as a little unusual is the bulge on the left. I typically tilt the mouse to the left to help move the laser away from the mousing surface when lifting it. The bulge gets in the way and forces me to use a tiny bit of extra effort, so the bulge can have an effect on me in games. It's feeling more natural already a few days later, and forces me to be a little more deliberate in lifting it, but it's something to keep in mind. Overall, I'm extremely happy with this choice.
The Logitech G500 is the successor to the G5 laser gaming mouse. It is a well constructed mouse and features all the bells and whistles most high-end mouses will offer. I also own a Logitech G5 and many questions aimed at the G500 are whether or not it is worth upgrading from the G5.
Here are a list some of the differences and improvements that are on the G500:
1) Relocation of the dpi increase/decrease buttons
2) Scroll wheel is now dual-mode with a hyperfast scrolling feature
3) Has an additional button on the side of the mouse
4) Offers a maximum of 5700 dpi
5) Weight cage now supports only 27 grams instead of 36 grams
6) Weight cage no longer has an alignment track
7) Orange lights that indicate the dpi setting is now red
8) The thumb rest groove has been resculpted
9) The G500 has a smooth finish on the mouse shell unlike the G5
10) On-board memory, lets you save profiles so when you go from computer to computer you can plug-and-play.
Pros/Cons
Pros:
-Better placement of the dpi increase/decrease buttons. It is now easier to change your dpi while gaming without awkwardly readjusting your hand position
-Smooth finish makes cleaning easier and increases overall comfort
-Hyperfast scrolling feature. Very useful when scrolling down through long documents or websites
Cons:
-When in click-to-click scrolling mode, the scrolling is a little too sensitive which can be troublesome if you are playing a first-person shooter that uses the scroll wheel to change weapons.
Other Comments:
-The three button cluster will vary from person to person. The buttons are placed very well for my hand.
-Some people have commented that the buttons on the side are too small, but they seem to be fine. The G5 side buttons are about 1.9 cm long and the G500 is about 1.8 cm long. The difference is negligible.
Conclusion:
If you are looking for a mouse to replace your current mouse for gaming, I would strongly recommend the G500. It offers most of the features you could ever need for gaming. If you own a G5 and are wondering if you should upgrade to the G500, it completely depends if you like the changes listed above. All in all, this is one of the best gaming mouses I've used. I highly recommend this mouse regardless you are going to use it for gaming or just for web browsing you wouldn't be disappointed.
Amazing mouse! Scroll wheel is great - I love the button that lets you switch between hyper scroll and geared scroll. Customizable buttons are amazing for gaming and for general use on the computer - the ability to change DPI on the fly is very useful for again both gaming and general use. I am an Aerospace Engineer and I have found this mouse performs better for my daily computer use (including many engineering programs) than any other mouse I have tried (performance mouse MX, Anywhere Mouse MX, MX Revolution, VX revolution, VX Nano). I was worried about having a corded mouse, but the cord has not gotten in the way yet, and its just an extra coolness factor because it is fabricated with some sort of cloth.
The only problem I have with it is the fact that there is not yet supporting software for use on a Mac (though it does work right out the box, I am unable to customize the mouse for general computer use).
Very adaptable... if you play FPS (First Person Shooter) and work with cad programs.. this is a very good instrument.
Being a Avid Gamer, a quality mouse has always been a foremost requirement of mine.Over the years i have bought and used almost every Gaming mouse - MX 518, Deathadder , CooperHead, Lachesis, G5, G9, Fatality, Mamba, Sentinel to name a few. Not many mouse felt like top class stuff to me.. Apart from G5 - IMO the best mouse ever made...Using that for more then 2 yrs now, used both the Ver 1 and Ver 2 of G5, Even tried upgrading thrice but G9, Mamba, CM Sentinel failed to give the same level of satisfaction as of G5.
Finally G500 came into picture,Looks more or less same as the G5..But God the Specs of the Mouse, Outclassing even the supercostly G9X, Mamba and Sentinel in practically every department. That made me buy this and boy hasn't it been the purchase of the century or should i say Mouse of the century for me.
The Precision, The accuracy combined with 5700DPI laser makes it the most Deadly Weapon of Mass Destruction anybody could have.
Oh, I forgot the weight system which is just as awesome as in G5 and Onboard Profiles - tho only 1 can be saved but that is all u require...everything is fantastic..!!
The scroll wheel which i must say is useless in gaming becoz this type of wheel will probably help more in document viewing rather then in gaming...
Its wonderful to see how Logitech can pack so much in so little..and in 56$ its really a steal....Really any gamer who can handle big mouse or has ever used MX 518 , DA , G5 this is a SureShot buy...!!!
Hail Logitech for such a wonderful product...service with Logitech has alwayz been awesome...I remember getting a brand new box packed G5 in 2 days when my earlier one just had a minor problem in it..
Highly Recommended
5 Stars...!!!!
Pros
5700DPI Sensor
Amazingly Accurate and Precised Sensor
Weight System
Onboard Profile Saving
Cons
Scroll Wheel is a hindrance sometimes in gaming
Too Big in size for many Gamers
This is the first gaming mouse that I have purchased and it has been a good one. The mouse is easy to hold and has many options to choose from (weight, DPI precision and button configurations). The SetPoint software is also easy to use and setup custom profiles. The mouse performs wonderfully and tracks very well. I've never had it skip or bounce. I am very pleased with the mouse, its performance and the ability for customization which it has. Great intro to gaming mice. I had considered a Razer Imperperator over this mouse, but the lower price and larger amount of features Logitech offered swayed me.
Without question, the best mouse ever! The engine and sensitivity of a G9 in the shape of the G5! Get this mouse you won't be upset!
