This is quite the mouse!
I can't say that we are using all the features, but it does have a lot of them. For the price tag, I think you really need to make sure you are using all the features in order to make it worth the money.
It's a bit bulky and does take a little bit getting used to, but extremely flexible in terms of making it work for yourself.
I recommend it for serious gamers. Otherwise, a regular mouse is just fine. But this is extremely top quality.
I've always been a Logitech MX Series user and the fit is a little weird at the beginning, but after a few hours I got used to it and I love it.
The G9x laser mouse is quite the upgrade from my cordless MX. As most can attest, gaming with a cordless mouse just doesn't work that well (can you say lag?). The G9x is the most sensitive, most customizable mouse I've ever had. Coupled with the Logitech G110 gaming keyboard, I'm suddenly a force to be reckoned with.
Pros: interchangeable grips, custom LED colors, smooth scrolling wheel, glides easily on desk, insanely accurate (I'm using it at 5000dpi), software is easy to use, onboard memory.
Cons: very expensive (but worth it).
I can't say enough good things about this mouse. I'm using the "precision grip", which is smaller and has a rough textured finish (perfect for those who prefer more finger control as opposed to palm control). I'm using 16 grams of weight to ad a little more heft. You can add up to 28 grams of weight via the nifty weight cartridge that just slides into the base of the mouse. Windows 7 found the drivers for it very quickly. I was up and running in a matter of minutes. Games like Half Life 2 and Modern Warfare 2 feel so much more satisfying when compared with my old mouse. If you can swing the $100 dollar price tag, you should go for it.
I'll cut straight to the case:
(if you are looking for a comparison between the G9 and G9x there is one between those reviews)
the mouse is awesome, you get the response you can expect from a gaming mouse. the precision is really great. I didn't have any problem installing the the software or configuring the profiles I wanted, also choosing colors for the LED on top is relatively straight-forward. The ability to choose your profiles and even set them to be turned on automatically or manually is a great addition. Because I grew tired of flipping the mouse over every time I am about to play one of my games.
The mouse also comes with a number of weights so you can choose to have either a heavy G9x or a light one. I set it to around around 19 grams, which I felt is just right for me. Also having to sets of mouse graps (or case) is pretty damn nice, one is soft for more action games, and rough for games that requires firm grip on the mouse such as red alert 3 where you have to keep your hand on the mouse all the time, or at least thats what I do.
The mouse also has an option to skip the nudges in the mouse wheel, this can be very useful in certain games, I have tried it in switching weapons in borderlands and it works as a charm, but you have to be careful otherwise you will skip two or more weapons at a time. I usually keep the nudges on so to help me narrow down how many weapons or items I want to skip to reach my intended one. but when surfing the net especially ones with long articles, it is good to be able to reach the bottom of a 30 pages site in less than a second.
The mouse also has two buttons on the sides which I am starting to use regularly, they are set to go back and forth in browsing the net or windows explorer. however the mouse gives you the ability to customize all the buttons associated with any profile, and with a built in memory it is easy to carry it around with all your profiles stored and just burge at your friends in the entertainment centre with a G9x in your hand just so you can see the looks in their faces. But dont do that if you are a newbie, you will be the joke of the year.
The wheel also has the feature of side scrolling though it doesn't work all the time, apparently the software or the browser you are using has to support this function which is a shame that most of them dont.
finally, and this is from a gamer to another, you dont need a gaming keyboard, but a mouse is your gun, your wand, the only thing between you winning or losing.
if you are a big gaming person you'll love this mouse i got that mouse about 8 months ago and i love it i mostly ply day of defat(dod) and call of duty 4 (cod4)i have some more wappons bind to extra battons on side like nade and flash nades that give me more help during gme becas im 1 hand person(no left arm)so i use my rite foot on keybord(4arrows)to run back, forward and side ways tell u truth its a big help and it has a profile button in boutom wich you can fix the way you like to make it easy for you and i put all 7g(grams)to make it havy enough for me wich you can change the waay you like too and extra hand grip too.its a great mouce for gameing and more.thanks to friends how told me about it and you all.
This is the best mouse I have ever owed, it is exactly what I wanted! First, the adjustable weight is really wonderful, I took back the crappy WOW mouse because it was way too light and my hand cramped. If you adjust the weight you can really reduce hand fatigue IMHO. The programable buttons are also wonderful and you can set themup to do anything, even non-game things. I have a profile set up just for sweepstaking with all my info in case Robo Form can't read the form. It saves so much time. It fits my hand well and I like both of the hand grips it comes with, I change them out depending on my task. I like that the cord is very long because I didn't want to go wireless, I am online too much and can't have it die at the wrong time.
This is still one of the best gaming mouses available; I agree with the multitude of great reviews posted here.
Razer boasts the Mamba, and Microsoft has the Sidewinder, but Neither of them compare the the simplicity and perfection in the G9 created by Logitech. I didn't need the 5600 dpi or else I would have bought the G9x. I like that you can change the body type. It actually makes a huge difference in the feel. I use the XL for everyday use and the other for FPS games since it is easier for a claw grip. It's not wireless, but for the price, who cares? 3200 dpi is enough for almost everything. I use it with the Razer Shpex mouse skin and have had no tracking problems whatsoever. I love the different profiles and macros. I don't play WoW, but I am sure it would be amazing there too. It does get a little dusty sometimes.
My current configuration is the XL and 16g. It's still easy to use but doesn't carry it's momentum when I play which helps me keep accurate.
It's amazing. But I know it's disgin for windows, so cannot work on Mac well.
I am not yet a "gamer" but bought this mouse for the features that it has.
First, this is a true plug-and-play mouse but it comes with a very user friendly set of software utilities to guide you thorough the simple to advanced features.
For those that like colors, this one has lots of options but that is just a nice feature, not the reason to buy.
The three features that I particularly like is the overall feel (comes with thwo easily interchangeable shells), the scrolling feature and the ability to change the weights inside of the mouse. My favorite is the "textured" one that gives you some "grip".
A pleasant surprise is the action of the scrolling wheel. You can give it a quick "free spin" and the pages will fly buy and depending on how fast you "kick" the wheel the distance traveled varies. You do not have to keep turning and turning the wheel to get back to the top or bottom of a page.
I have experimented with several weights and it is truly amazing how changing just a few grams of weight changes the feel of the mouse. After having worked with several "mice" which extremely light, having a mouse with some weight gives me more feel and increases the accuracy of placement.
Now, I am not a gamer, but I can see how this mouse would be a big advantage due to the feel and the ability to store macros directly on the mouse. Also, the "X" version claims to have increased accuracy. In my use, I have found the mouse to be extremely smooth and accurate so I suspect this to be an accurate claim.
What are the "cons"? I really like a cordless mouse and hope that Logitech will consider this in the future. Perhaps this would slow down the mouse to the point that gamers would complain. I will leave that to others.
And of course, the price will be a barrier to many. Personally, I would have saved money if I had bought this mouse several "mice" ago, avoiding the cost of mice now nesting in a box in my office.
You will like it if you can swallow the cost and live with the cord.
The GX9 puts all the features that Logitech has developed over the past few years together. Having the different fits are perfect for every hand and the features are endless. This is a fast moving, and perfectly balanced mouse. Accurate and great for day to day use but its true colors shine through for gaming.
Wow, what a fantastic mouse.
This mouse is actually more than I bargained for and has proved to be
a real winner while playing online games. Its range of customization
is fantastic. from the programmable buttons, to the multiple user
settings, to the weights you can insert for the perfect feel. I really
like the different textured coverings it comes with. Really, this mouse
is an A+, best mouse on the market for gaming. The WoW mouse for playing
WoW is junk if you ask me, this G9x blows it away.
I just want to say that this is a great product! I just recieved mine in the mail today. I had alot of trouble deciding on the G9 and the G9x but after reading a few other reviews the only difference is the dpi setting and alot on the price. Do yourself a favor and save a few dollars and buy this product. I have been a long time user of the G500 and still love that mouse but I have to say I am very impressed overall. The only reason I switched from the G500 is that I have small children and they seem to have misplaced the device that holds the weights! So any logitech product that you buy is an excellent product from personal experience. If your a gamer and love FPS like myself than give it a try It has a great feel and perfect weight adjustment. It doesnt have as much as the G500 but sufficient and the overall feel is alot better I would have given it ten stars if there was an option! All I have left to say is GREAT!!!
1st I have to say that I am not a serious gamer and I got this mouse from Amazon.com's Vine program.
When I 1st received the mouse, it looked different from any other mice I have used, after carefully unpackaging the box, I briefly went through the user manual to get myself familiarized with all the parts. I tried it on my laptop and here were my findings,
1. A lot of nice features, such as adjustable sensitivity level, adjustable grip size, you can even change the weight of it, it's really cool.
2. I used it for web browsing, it was very very good, especially when you want to scroll up and down quickly and precisely, and I also used it to play my old favorite game "red alert", took me a little time to get used to the way the mouse operates, but after that, I could see it really improved my game speed and could have been a big advantage if I had played againset other people online.
I really could not find a downside of this mouse except its price, but if you can afford it and you play a lot of games, then go for it, you won't be disappointed.
First off this mouse is great as it feels so comfy in the palm of your hand. The buttons are large so you don't have to find the "sweet spot" to click when in a firefight playing a FPS game. I game hard and usually kill the left button on any mouse I use.
I had a few cheap generic mice before getting this bad boy and all I can say is waw......the sensitivity is ridiculous to the point where I had to adjust it down a bit. This was such a breeze as the program that it comes with is pretty straight forward. It took me less that 2 mins to set this up and I even changed the colour of the led lights on the mouse (pretty cool feature by the way).
The material that coats the mouse make it a joy to use. It doesn't get sweaty or greasy and my fingers are always at home on it.
The larger than normal scroll wheel is a God send as I have large long fingers. Almost threw my old cheap mouse outside many times due to the crappy scroll wheel.
This mouse is a nobrainer for anyone looking for something different, functional (be it gaming or general use) and most importantly you have options as to the interchanging grips and the dpi settings.
Best mouse I've ever owned.....period
