I liked playing this game. It kept my interest the whole time. I just wish I could keep playing. The only problem I had was with the sound when the officer was giving the instructions verbally at the beginning of each campaign.
I have two boys, one is 11 and the other is 9 and this has been a fun game for them. The game works well on Vista but I have had it lock up twice so far. If you "alt-tab" in and out of the screen it usually comes back to life. The game is not full of blood and gore, just a lot of explosions and noise - perfect for young boys.
This game far exceeded what I expected. Its "the strategy game" I've been waiting for and didn't even realize it.
Pros:
* Great graphics
* can upgrade your units w/ special abilities based on needs (strategy!)
* units gain experience
* "persistent" army - surviving units stay in your army for next missions (even captured enemy vehicles, cool!!)
* can repair/heal units - in play w/ spec ability of APCs or trucks.
* fairly decent enemy AI
* interesting storyline
* you get to build your persistent army with a point based system
* capture key sites in mission to get reinforcement "points"
Cons:
* Sound "chops" at odd times
* minor path-ing issue caused by terrain/obstacles(typical of games)
* the "briefing" between missions; You can hear the briefing, but there is no video to go along with it. The display just freezes while the sound plays and expects you to wait and hit mouse when sound stops to continue. Almost seems like a bug preventing videos from playing.
* Can really LAG - as battles heat up.
But runs good on my high end setup, assuming I have SLI enabled.
Over-All: I'd give this a 8/10 score ... as its a lot of fun to play and keeps my interest.
I nice alternative history game where the the Soviet Union attacks the United States in Berlin shortly after WWII. I like the story and the cause and effect makes since as a RU Military Jet slams into a D-C3 Supply plane. You have a nice interface as well with a in-screen window much like Empire Earth 2 where you can be at one part of the map but see the action in another. I also liked how you can send recon planes to scout the area and bomber jets to soften the enemy before you get there. The game is fairly lengthy taking several hours to complete the main single player game. There is a multiplayer portion as well and a skrimish solo mode which I like but other than this there isn't much replay value. I your a fan of the last two titles then this will disgest well into your collection. If your new to the series then this game is a great start since there are a few new updates and a friendly interface to boot.
