i have never had prolems with consoles fps but then i tryied mw2 in the pc and for some reason after a few minutes of play i get dizzy
I received my copy of Modern Warfare 2 for PC today. I was so happy but immediately I was a little pissed when finding out I had to install "Steam" in order to play the game. Ok, so I started the install routine. Which ran for about 30 minutes and then stopped with the message that Steam can on run once on the machine even though I didn't have it installed prior to purchasing this game. OK, so I started again. This time it worked. So I started Steam and tried to load the game. It did load for about 2 seconds and then said something to the effect of "common.ff not found".. This happend a bunch of times. So I opened the prefs of Steam and played around a bit. Then finally I got the game to work. After that everything was as should be.
Since I am mostly a user of the Single Player mode, I started the campaign. Graphics were awesome, the sound design also. A big step up from CoD 4 and COD: World at War. The only thing I found immediately is that the game is very hectic but that's probably by design. So you don't have the time to soak in the ambiance.
Now I played a few missions, including the one at the airport which is really, really gutwrenching if you think about it too much but it makes sense in the context of the game.
Since I mostly care about the single player mode I can say that I am very pleased with the game and it's graphics and despite the forced use of Steam and the complicated (at least in my case) installation I still stand by my decision to buy this game for my PC and not the X-Box 360. Simply because it's way better to control via mouse and keyboard.
Summary: If you enjoyed the previous CoD Games you surely can't go wrong with this one. Most people who wrote negative reviews obviously tried to find something wrong with this game and if you don't count the installation hassle there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. It's a great game with superior GFX and Sound and even though I haven't tried the multiplayer yet I am pretty sure you won't find a better one elsewhere.
Still, why Activision/Infinity Ward decided to force that Steam-crap on millions of users I don't know.
Anxiously awaiting the release date for MW 2, I was debating on whether or not to get the PC version because I had some technical issues with last years World at War on my machine, seems my Vision tek Radeon X1300 video card has see it's better day.But I gave it a try, only to find out that after I installed the game, the main menu was greatly distorted and I was unable to distinguish anything on the screen, I consequently clicked on the wrong icon ad disabled a couple of game functions.
I gave up on playing, gave the game to my grandson, he's going to see if he can sell or trade it off; as he owns the PS3 console as well as the game for his platform;...I played the entire game on his PS3 and was highly impressed with it! I found that this game is a might more difficult than previous COD games, but I really liked it; It took about 4 hours of play to successfully complete all the missions on the "recruit" mode!
Bottom line...if your PC's video card is a recent one, I recommend this game highly...the graphics have improved somewhat over last years versions, Infinity Ward has once again proven they are the very best in the business! Whatever platform you use...this is a must purchase if you like to play action shooter games!
I'm not sure what all the fuss is about. PC Gamers expect $10 cheaper games with more features sold to a smaller install base that pirates games like crazy.
Modern Warfare 2 is extremely fun and addicting, and with the PC version you are getting a nearly identical experience to the excellent console versions, with the addition of a small number of features (obviously not dedicated servers).
Some people hate Steam, but I love it. You don't have to worry about losing your discs, and you can access the steam community and a web browser in game. Being the PC version it also supports higher graphical settings. What's to complain about? Yeah I'm a little worried about "What if steam shuts down in the future?", but I wouldn't anticipate the PC's #1 digital distribution platform to shut down anytime soon.
So you can't resell this game, which kinda sucks, but you also can't lose or destroy your license so really it works just like the rest of the software industry.
The only thing I can see that's missing is the leaderboard, which I actually am kinda angry about since I was expecting a direct port. It's possible that it's located in a different place than the console version but for now I'm not seeing it.
I honestly think dedicated servers are a mixed blessing, with their ridiculous rules and how hard it is to find a balanced game with the level rotation and game type that you want. PC Gamers: Console people left PC for matchmaking because it's a better experience for the kind of gamer who has a life. I never got better ping times using dedicated servers, personally, because all the ones I liked to play in were not perfectly close to me. Matchmaking connects you to the best peer connection available regardless of what game rules you like.
In my house, matchmaking is fastest on the PC version. Not really much of a difference but it's there (we have PS3s and Xbox 360 MW2 players too). The PS3 version is having online problems in the first week at launch, the Xbox 360 and PC versions really don't, FYI.
If you are a fan of Call of Duy 4 Modern Warfare, then Modern Warfare 2 is a must buy. One of the best games I have ever played from all aspects. The single player campaign is one of the best experiences I have ever had playing a video game and the multiplayer will keep you playing for months.
I'm very impressed with this new version. I can't understand all the negative reviews. Compared to its predecessor, the graphics are sharper, the sound is much improved, and contains many more weapons. The gunfire sounds are realistic, and not flat and generic as before (I'm using a soundblaster extreme gamer sound card). The range of weapons is vast. Also, there is a slew of weapon attachments, and they do not replace your first perk. Aiming system seems to be much improved. I understand the gripe about dedicated servers, however, this system still works. It has its kinks though. Game interruptions are frequent (multiplayer) if the host drops out, and some server errors, but I'm sure it will work itself out as time goes on. It's no reason to give this game 1 star. The game is top-notch, and you will have a lot of fun.
I have read countless reviews on this product which bemoan the supposed exorbitant price being charged for this game with references to corporate greed, etc. Hmmm. You still bought the product so they couldn't have been charging TOO much. It's basic economics folks. It's a video game for crying out loud. I don't think anyone was sticking a gun to your head forcing you to buy this product. Let me give you a little lesson in consumer economics. If you think it is too much money then you cast your consumer vote by NOT purchasing it. If too many people didn't buy the product then they would be forced to lower the price. But that's not the case since this product has set all sorts of sales records. That's not corporate greed...that's just good business. Corporations are in business to make money and the only limit to their revenues should be what the market will bear...and you did.
Well the much awaited second edition of Modern Warfare came out and was a sensation as expected. I never played the first game, but what made me buy the second one and not the first was because many of my friends bought it. So I wanted to play online with my friends. The price was typical of PC games, not super expensive, but tends to go for cheap online compared to it's console counterparts.
I'll first start with the single player. Not a super hard campaign really, mostly what made it difficult wasn't so much the AI of the enemies or the puzzle like scenarios of where to go, do what, and when. The difficult part was the fact that the damage you took increased to realistic measures as the difficulty setting rose. Essentially you died much, much, much, quicker. Instead of a regular FPS game with a health bar at 100 or something, you could die in a single explosion or large rifle shot to the chest. Keeps you from going rambo and just killing 15 enemies with ease. Aside from the campaign, the special ops is just the some parts of the campaign just a little harder, and allowing friends to join in. Despite the dark sounding review on the single player, it's still very fun to play in that it's realism factor is high.
As for multiplayer, this is where my expectations were high. It is very fun, much to do with all the unlocks for many different weapons and attachments. The only true complaint that I have about the multiplayer is the fact that if you just installed the game and never played online for it yet, you are at a SERIOUS disadvantage in my point of view. When you start out, you get the basic weapons and class choices. And only till you rank up enough can you get a custom class, but even then you're limited to your standard weapons without attachments while everyone else who has been playing longer have everything that you don't. Kinda makes it unfair to start. But after you work up some stuff it really gets fun with friends.
And finally I'll talk about the technical aspect of the game. It's great on graphics, very well done, lighting, shading, etc. but the issue I have come accross is that setting the video options to higher that it "recommends is best" causes a lot of issues. Just to give an idea of how much a strong computer matters, I have TWO ATI Radeon HD 4800's for video cards, 4 gigabytes of ram, and Quad Core Processor (AMD). Despite my high ability for games, MW2 would lag to an extreme at some points of the game. Not constant, but some spots here and there. Mainly open areas where detail would be high or if there were many enemies (which there's almost always is). Once setting it back to it's "recommended" settings the game is perfectly fine. Except one thing that I've found to only occur during the single player and that is the game crashing due to unknown reasons. It never really tells you what happened which kinda makes it annoying.
Overall the quality of the game looks nice but was clearly rushed for PC. Regardless of the issues with video that I talked about, the game is still very fun and has a lot of replay value.
Overall the game's fun is 5/5
The overall game itself is 4/5
I recommend buying the game.
If you don't mind invisible gunmen and grenades that follow you, then you may enjoy MW2. The extra content is worthless without a second player to compensate for the game cheating. Don't waste your time.
Unlike most reviews of this game, I actually bought this game, yes for the pc. The single player are great fun and the multiplayer is solid. The major complaint of a lack of dedicated servers is a very understandable; but the core gameplay is still great. If they patch this game for dedicated server support (and, of course, lean) this game could be a classic like the old one. Without it I can only recommend to players who are not that into clans or micromanagement.
If you're a Call of Duty fan, a shooter fan, or even action movie fan, this game is incredible. The single-player experience is literally jaw-dropping at several points throughout, and is a non-stop adrenaline rush of a game until the very end.
I must say that as great as it is, it feels a bit short to me... most people seem to get through the single-player in about 6 hours... I got through in about 4 and a half...
Despite this, I'd definitely recommend this game to anyone who even thinks they might have a chance of liking it. The multi-player is great and the 'no dedicated server' isn't much of an issue since you'll get the same problem on the Xbox anyways... and there are ways of getting dedicated servers (google it).
The Co-op special missions are definitely worth a run-through as well, and help make up for the shorter single-player game.
Definitely a must-have for any PC game collection.
I was reluctant to buy this game since it is a Steam game (paying $$$ to essentially rent a game). I loved the original Modern Warfare game, so I held my nose and risked it. I am glad that I did.
Alot of people are reporting having problems with the 8-headed monster that is Steam. I hate the whole guilty-until-proven-not-so-guilty application as well, but I had no problems setting it up. BE WARNED: you need a GOOD internet connection or else you might as well forget it. Once I got my game registered, it did not bother me again. Other people complained about the multi-player; hacking issues, bad connections and such. I don't do multi-player, playing the single-player missions only.
Besides Steam, how is the game? Stuff blows up REAL good! It was everything that I was expecting: simple controls, good graphics, great fire-fights and great weapons. Like the first game, you get to play soldiers on multiple fronts in different tactical situations. Sadly, there are no AC-130 Spectre missions; they are replaced with the ability to control Predator drone strikes. They are alot of fun, with the added danger of accidentally bombing yourself. *BOOM*
The first game gave you the opportunity to wield the awesome chain gun once; CODMW2 lets you cut loose with this weapon multiple times. Chop-chop-chop-chop, Whoopee! There are multiple chase missions in the game too; I relly liked the snow mobile chase, very sweet. Later in the game, WWIII breaks out and you are stuck in the middle of it. Nukes get lobbed in this game as well.
Bottom line: if you like bloody fire-fights, sniping and conspiracies then this game is for you. Casual gamers will also like this game as well.
Although this release is one of the biggest of all time, it will most assuredly be looked upon as a case study for any future developers.
I rank this release debacle up there with Star Wars NGE.
The outrage shown by PC gamers being ignored is nothing short of incredible. Abysmal reviews aside, time will tell if PC gamers voted with their wallets as well. Even with decent PC sales figures, Actvision/IW will have to stand up and face the music eventually. Companies in ANY industry cannot ignore, mistreat, or insult their customers without repercussions.
Good -
Very nice world design.
Game engine improvements allow for spectacular visuals and destruction.
Special Ops mode is fun.
Bad -
Surround Sound issues on some systems.
Controls suffer from consolitis (ex. No lean).
No dedicated severs.
No MOD support.
Max 9v9 online matches.
Short SP (4-7 hours).
MSRP $10 more than most PC games ($59.99) with NO option of trade-in like the console twin.
Bottom Line -
MW2 SP is a slightly above average action FPS. The SP has been turned into the video game equivalent of the movie "crank" on Mountain Dew Game Fuel, and ends almost as quickly. Perhaps if you suffer from ADD this adrenaline fueled pace will satisfy, but for an average person it plays out like a game that was rushed - figuratively and literally.
The MP debacle will be remembered for years to come and you don't need me to beat a dead horse anymore than I already have.
Wait for this game to hit the bargain bin.
I just finished the single-player campaign and I had a blast. (I don't play games like these online, so I don't have any comments on that aspect.) The action was intense and fast-paced, with some new twists--such as the snow-mobile chase--that really kept things fresh. And the graphics look absolutely gorgeous. The story-line was a bit unusual, but hey, it's just a game. The ending is a cliff-hanger that is sure to disappoint some, but hopefully that means there will be another installment sometime in the future. I look forward to that. It was so nice to see Captain Price and "Soap" again.
I heard a lot of bad things about the PC version of this game. At first I was apprehensive because I heard there were no dedicated servers and the PC version was just a port, but after playing it I think it's mostly a good game and want to break down the pros and cons. First off, I kind of like the fact there are no dedicated servers. Why? No dealing with chump admins. No getting banned from a server because the admins are snitchy about how other people play. Frankly, I like to keep the drama out of my gaming experience. I like to just load up and play. That said, I think they should have at least given you the choice.
Pros
---------------------------------
-load up and play
-nice graphics
-your bullets actually go where you aim, unlike a lot of FPSs out there. There's still recoil, it's just not ridiculous. I think the developers of MW2 realized that hardened warriors are holding these guns, not elementary school children.
-game looks very polished and coding seems solid. I haven't noticed any bugs during gameplay. Not saying there aren't any, but if there are it doesn't take away from the experience.
-even though there are no dedicated servers you can still play the game with your clan or a buddy. Another cool feature is that buddies show up as blue dots on your map, whereas your other teammates are green. That means you can always find your buddy and no more asking, "Dude, where you at?"
-you gain experience and certain weapons only become unlocked after you've reached a certain point. I think this is cool, but I know people who think this is a con because they don't have the time to invest in earning all the equipment.
-Spec ops is a fun mode of the game where you have to complete certain challenges. For example, complete an obstacle course under a certain time limit. The time you get dictates what rating you get (1, 2, or 3) stars. Another challenge is fighting your way across a bridge against a ridiculous amount of enemies. While short, they are challenging and fun, and you can even go online and play with a friend. Stars can be earned either playing solo or with a friend.
-Tons of multiplayer game modes to choose from: Team deathmatch, demolition, capture the flag, search and destroy, headquarters pro, etc. Hard to get bored.
-PC version allows graphics customization.
-sound effects are awesome
Cons
--------------------------------
-menus could have been better organized. For example, if you want to change an accessory on your primary gun, you have to go through the whole class menu sequentially. What I mean is you pick the class you want to change, then you click primary, click assault rifle, click Famas, click silencer (accessory), then click gun color. Now say like you wanted a scope instead of the silencer. You have to go through the whole process again, except this time pick the scope. Could have been more efficient, but a minor gripe.
-you can't choose your favorite map unless you put a game together with your friends. If you're just playing alone, then you get what you get. You can vote to skip a map, but only once. After a map is skipped you have to play the next one whether it's better or not.
-There can be a bit of a wait between matches as the timer counts down. This isn't always a bad thing because you might want to change your kit, but they should have included a ready button that way if everyone is ready to go the game starts.
-you might get peered up with a host who has hacked the game and changed the variables giving you a ton of exp for making one kill. In other words you'll go from level 8 to level 70 (the highest level) in one shot. For some people (like those who don't want to earn all the equipment) this is a good thing. For others (like me), it's an annoyance. Support doesn't help. They can't revert you back to your previous level. The only thing you can do is backup your game files every so often in case it happens, that way it won't be a complete loss. There are also ways to take your level back to 1 (ie. starting over), but that kind of sucks when you spent all that time gaining levels and then someone ruins it for you. The best thing to do is leave suspicious servers ASAP.
-on average it's more laggy than playing on a dedicated server, but only slightly.
If you are on the fence about whether to get this or Bad Company 2, I recommend this. Here's why. If you read the one star reviews about BC2, you'll find people complaining about too many bugs. This was my experience with Battlefield 2142. There were so many bugs that it took away from the experience. I spent $20 on that game and wish I could get that $20 back. I spent $60 on MW2 and have not regretted it once. Frankly, I think the difference between Infinity Ward and EA is that IW takes a lot more pride in their work. There's a smoothness and polish to MW2 that BF 2142 just doesn't have. Based on my experience with BF 2142 and other people's experience with BC2, you have been warned about Battlefield's buggy reputation.
I gave MW2 4 stars because it has a polished look and solid programming, but it lacks options that have come standard in PC games for years. However, if you want a fun game to play without a lot of fuss, then this is the game for you.
