The single player game was really good. Story-line was well concieved, gripping, and thrilling. Voice acting is top notch, graphics are nice (but seem a little dated...but this has the positive effect of making the game silky smooth with gobs of AA/AF), gunplay "feels" good, the AI is pretty challenging even at "regular" setting (difficulty 2 out of 4), but not frustrating. Basically, it's a very polished, slick, and exciting game.

The multiplayer is addictive, too. I don't see the fuss about no dedicated servers -- the game seems to match me up with opponents to play against fairly quickly. The ranking up system makes the game ridiculously addictive, the perks system is nice, and the gameplay is smooth, fast, and fun. One complaint I have is that DM/TDM modes don't allow for more players (probably due to the P2P networking system), but I do remember in CoD 4: MW the 40+ person matches could be a little ridiculous. That said, I think the 4-8 player limit on straight up FFA is a little disappointing.

Great game overall, well worth the money. 5 stars.

I've been playing this game on both the XBox 360 and the PC for over 8 months now.

It's a great, fun, fast paced game.

Most of the one star reviews for this game - over 400 thus far - are from people who are very, very pissed off at the steps the game developers and publisher took to cut down on the rampant piracy that is killing the PC gaming industry.

That's right. Most of these 1 star reviewers haven't played this game at all. They are simply telling you what they don't like about changes made/features removed to cut down on piracy.

You want to know why Infinity Ward made the consoles front and center for this sequel to Modern Warfare? It's because of all you guys out there stealing their games from torrents.

We help ourselves to free game after free game, and then scream bloody murder when Ubisoft goes overboard with anti-piracy measures. When the makers of the Modern Warfare series decided to make the consoles front and center for the sequel--stripping some features PC gamers are used to in the process--gamers threw a tantrum and bombarded Amazon with hundreds of one-star reviews for a game they admit right in the reviews they never actually purchased or played.

--------------------------------

You don't like the decisions developers and publishers are making? You'd like to see them stop making consoles the center of their projects? Then cut down on the piracy.

Watching all the one star tantrum reviews here is just pathetic.

IW abandoned PC gamers by stripping dedicated and made this game a COMPLETE console port and turned an awesome PC game into a coaster. Please don't buy this game, we need to show IW that they need to stop treating PC gamers like trash. I mean, PC gamers got the CoD series going, and IW leaves on the side of the road like a piece of trash. The worst part is, people have explored the game files and found out that all of the necessary files to create a dedicated server are there in the game. Thanks alot IW!

While it's clear that the game is purposefully gimped in many respects---most importantly, no dedicated servers or LAN play or even map selection on public matches---to prevent piracy among other reasons, what is left is nevertheless a strong product whose entertainment value cannot be doubted. I have clocked about 15 hours of online play in the month since I got the game, and it is still very exciting and stimulating every time I revisit it.

If you already have games you play online and don't necessarily need to add in a great deal of variety, don't buy this game. If you want another game to add into your arsenal for online play, this is a strong entry.

I'm a very very picky video gamer, it takes a lot to satisfy me, especially for a game that costs this much. This is the first game I pre-ordered and I'm glad I did. The muliplayer fun is endless, spec ops (co-op) is great when playing with a friend and the Mission is also very superb. My new #1 Game :)

What I loved about this game especially:

- The variety and customization

- Muliplayer is endless fun.

- The balance of the weapons. Not everyone picks the same thing, everyone picks what he prefers, and you can always do well no matter what your favorite weapon is.

I liked almost every aspect about this game. But, I'm going to list what I thought were minor annoyances:

- In multiplayer mode, while waiting in the rooms, you cannot chat with text and the only way to communicate between non-friends and party members is through a microphone. I guess this encourages people to buy a microphone at least?

- The chopper gunner is (kind of) overpowered. I hate using that term because I don't think anything really is, and it is overused. But when you can use the chopper gunner to reach the Nuke perk, thats a bit too much. I think you need to have a higher streak to get it.

- In muliplayer Usually, it is whoever notices the other player first is the person that dies.

- No dedicated servers. But regardless, people protesting this will buy and enjoy the game regardless.

Infinity Ward and Activision pretty much butchered this enhanced version of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare by removing all the good things that made its predecessor awesome (Yes, I own CoD4 and like it) such as modding support (new maps and other custom content) and the ability to run a dedicated server.

With the lack of those two vital features, the game is basically in IW's grip on what and when they will add new content and will have a much lower replay value that will eventually cause the game to be forgotten within 6 months tops.

Stick with CoD4: MW if you want action packed, cooperative and (mostly)realistic team play as it supports third party maps/mods AND the ability to run your own server, among other things like up to 32 players (MW has a max of 18 player limit IIRC).

In all, avoid this game at all costs and play Call of Duty 4 instead.

With the upgraded create-a-class system, good graphics, great game play mechanic, and generally awesome features, this game is worth the money. It not only has fun multiplayer, but an epic singleplayer campaign.

Granted, it doesn't have dedicated servers which means that it can be a little bit faulty in terms of connection. That's the only complaint that I have against it, though. This game is so much fun! I've already gotten ten or twenty hours out of the singleplayer, and 95 hours of multiplayer gameplay, and it's still not boring.

The customizable classes give you tons of primary weapons (sniper rifles, assault rifles, submachine guns, light machine guns, and a riot shield), secondary weapons (machine pistols, handguns, shotguns, and explosive launchers like the Stinger and RPG), perks, and equipment, making it tons of fun for a lot of experimentation. All guns are customizable with things like silencers, various types of optic sights, and other neat things. All perks have a "pro" version, unlocked by doing various things with the perk, making it do more.

Tons of fun - absolutely recommended.

If one thought that it impossible to have access to too much cash, I would point immediately to Infinity Ward as the poster child for the detriments of excess. This current iteration of CoD wades deep into the shallow end of the kiddie pool to deliver a ridiculous story, pacing that only the ADD crowed could love, and game length barely longer than the time it takes to install the game and watch the credits. However, it does so with such pretty packaging and summer blockbuster like production value, that IW hopes you won't notice and while your ears are ringing from the constant explosions, they'll pick your pocket for $60 because hey, what's an extra $10 in this economy?

Technically given the graphics and frenetic action, the game runs quite well. On a 8800GTS card I was able to run the game at 1920X1200 with, I guess, full graphical options. Of course since this game was made to run on consoles, it really should run well with this hardware. I did suffer 2 extreme crashes one being to the desktop and the other actually reboot the machine. Despite all the save games, both times the mission had to start completely over as a result. It's rare to see these kinds of crashes, but even more rare that the game is unable to recover properly. Given the "length" of the game though, and you are actually never far from where you started....

Following in true console fashion (oh, right this is on a PC) there is no ability to save the game. Having said that, the game saves automatically more often than any other game I have ever come across. As a result one wonder why they didn't just let you save the game when you want until you remember that this game was made for console. All the saves aren't necessarily a good thing since the game only has 1 save slot. If the game decides to save you in a bad position (as it did for me on several occasions) you will either have to try to deal with it or restart the mission (as I had to do once). If the game is going to think and decide for me, I wish it were a little smarter about it.

The story as mentioned has gaps the size of the Grand Canyon. While no one really comes to these types of games expecting deep political thrillers, it would be nice to construct something with more meat and depth. The pacing of this game is beyond absurd and requires you to develop ADD in order to tolerate it. There is absolutely no time to try and listen and comprehend the chatter or conversations (maybe that is good all things considering) nor look at and take in what is going on around you. IW seems to forget that downtime is just as important as balls to the wall action. When a game has nothing but balls to the wall action, it all becomes just a lot of noise. This game is so absolutely tone deaf when it comes to pacing and structure that it is hard to believe this is the same company who made the most brilliant FPS WWII games.

We all know that the last CoD game was about the length of an expansion pack. If you feared that this iteration was going to be the same, I can tell you that it isn't. The game is actually the length of a trailer or perhaps a demo. If you think you are going to get your monies worth out of the single player experience, I have news for you, it is worth $29.99 tops not the $60 double dip recession prices that will have the Fed considering whether inflation really is something to worry about now.

I have not yet taken on multiplayer. I am fully aware that IW, besides slapping the PC version with console pricing, also emasculated the server dynamic around multiplayer (thus accounting for the majority negative reviews you see on this and other sites for the PC). I do plan to try out Spec Ops with a friend which will hopefully add another $5 of value and 15 minutes to this product.

Instead of channeling their inner Michael Bay, IW could stand to tap into a little "King of the World" James Cameron and add about 3x the length and content to this game. It really wouldn't be that hard. Perhaps they need to go back and play some of their earlier works to better understand how they became a premier development house to begin with. As it stands, if this is going to be their development template, then this is going to be the last IW game I play. It's a shame to as these guys really are talented. Perhaps they need to suffer a little from the recession in order to tap into that talent once again.

P.S. The PC game must be authenticated using Steam. This means you cannot sell your PC game used since the key will be tied to your account even if you uninstall it. So you really have no chance to get any of your money back. Also, for those looking at this game on the used market, please remember that you CANNOT play this game if someone has already installed it. You will get a duplicate key error from Steam and the key cannot be transferred to you.

I really liked the game and thought it was pretty interesting, especially with new weapons and missions. I don't understand why people are criticizing it so much but I guess everyone got different expectations! I love it and enjoy playing Special Coops online. The only hussle is the NAT issue that takes awhile to solve. Otherwise, I am very happy with the game.

I was very concerned buying this product b/c I thought it was selling too low so the multiplayer wouldn't work, it would be missing the cd case, etc. But it has worked perfectly, it was in perfect shape, and I LOVE the game. Ignore the negative hype about the PC version of this game not having "dedicated servers" unless you want to NOT play this game and instead fly around the level in low gravity shooting infinite grenades. Really? Thank you Infinity Ward/Activision (whoever does the servers) for not letting this game lower to that dumbass TF2 no skill crap.

I see a lot of the reviews focusing on the lack of dedicated servers for multiplayer. That is a negative change from previous versions of the series, but it isn't worth all the one star reviews.

Single Player Campaign. It was short (like previous versions) but action packed and offered good variety. I enjoyed the varying scenarios. Breaching a locked door and entering the room in slow motion was just insanely fun. AI teammate chatter is very good, with them calling out useful information about enemy positions.

Multiplayer. The lack of dedicated server support (without hacking) is a bummer, plain and simple. However, once you get past the sour grapes over that, the system they implemented is certainly not a show stopper. I have never had problems finding a game to join. There is always plenty of action even with the reduced player counts. And I've only had noticable lag in one game - so the system does a decent job of finding the "best host." Once you are in a game, you quickly forget about the lobby. The graphics are amazing. The variety of weapons is great. The new perks and attachments are balanced and fun. And the kill streak rewards are improved from the previous game.

Overall impressions: great graphics, balanced gameplay, and plenty of stuff to work towards to keep you motivated (aside from the pure fun of it).

Don't let the disappointment over removing dedicated servers keep you from playing the best FPS around. Get over the sour grapes and get MW2. You won't regret it.

So everyone's a little ticked off about this game ... at least for the PC and I'll try and offer a non-biased review on this game.

For the record, yes I know my PC inside out and not a console gamer pretending to be a PC gamer. Yes I know what Core 2 Duo "Wolfdale" means as opposed to Core 2 Duo "Conroe". Yes I know what stream processors are and my graphics card has 112 of them (8800GT).

The Single Player is decent... I would say the first MW was better than MW2's storyline. The transition from MW1 to MW2... well, MW1 was more dramatic. Not so action-packed. MW2's single player feels like you're playing a movie. Literally. Not sure how well that will sit with you guys. There are some parts in the game that are directly ripped off from the movie The Rock with Sean Connery and Nicholas Cage in it and it shows a lack of creativity to me. In fact some of the single player missions seem to be slightly recycled from MW1. You'll notice that some missions will be similar. All in all it's pretty good. At first it just gets better and better and better... and then ... what the heck just happened? Honestly in that aspect it was a little disappointing. I'm not asking for a realistic shooter, but it'd be nice to have a semi-believable story-line like MW1 had. MW2 just gets over the top. Oh, and you have to deal with a cliffhanger. I have a huge dislike for cliffhanger endings. Endings like MW1 and Halo 1 are alright because you play the single player and it leaves you satisfied. MW2 however... it feels like something is missing.

The multiplayer is ... frustrating. Because of several factors NOT just related to not having dedicated servers. My #1 complaint was at times you'd get random re-spawns on the map in MW1 and get killed with 4 enemies around you. In MW2 it's worse. You don't even know where the battle lines are. Some guy on the other team can rush in and start knifing everyone on your team if you're not careful. It's absolutely ridiculous. There are so many gaps that can be exploited and you can do likewise. Enemies are everywhere and if you're not careful you're dead.

Yes there are hackers and I don't know what to say about them. Not having a server admin sucks? To be fair there is a plus side.. you can join a game instantly. So you find a hacker, then leave a game, then join another room instantly. I find myself playing Ground War a lot since it has up to 18 people but come on that is ridiculous. I loved playing in 50+ people servers in MW1. Oh yes the lag can get quite bad at times but since everyone's lagging eh :/...

To be fair I've never liked the multiplayer for any of the modern warfares. For MP I usually just play Team Fortress 2 which ends up being a better MP experience than MW1 or MW2 can offer. I find myself raging a lot when I play MW2 MP. Not really so for TF2...

There's a lot of varied weapons in MW2 though for the MP so that's kind of nice and there are some perks I really like... like scavenger which is kind of like bandolier but it resupplies you when you pick up kits from dead people and the fact that perks also have a "Pro" version is pretty neat. It kind of leans itself to unbalanced games though for newbies.

All in all, I give it 3 out of 5. Not the game it could have been but pretty decent. MP is worth jack (but NOT because of the lack of dedis... just want to make that clear), and SP... it's a bit interesting. I sure has heck wouldn't recommend that you spend $60 for this game though. I'd say a more justified price range would be $30 for the hastily made single player and frustrating MP experience.

This game improves upon the first modern warfare. The single player is fun but the real value is still in the multiplayer. I actually enjoy the new matchmaking through iwnet. I rarely have problems with connection and I prefer to play this way rather than being in someone else's magical land of make believe where they make all the rules on their own server. If you're a casual gamer and not hardcore into making your own clan and server you will enjoy this game greatly. Personally, I think first person shooters are much more fun to play on PC and if you have a machine that can run this game then you should definitely buy it.

This game has to be the best one 2009 has seen thus far. It's such a compelling story...totally full of twists and surprises. If you were a fan of the first Modern Warfare, (Call of Duty 4) I strongly suggest you add this game to your collection. The campaign is sick, multi-player is just as good if not better, and the co-op is cool to get some achievements.

This review is written for the PC side. The game is fun. Really fun. The problem is NO DEDICATED SERVERS! COD WAW best I could get was 80 ms on many servers. I average 150-160 ms now. This morning I was over 200ms with a host in England (I live in Utah). I like many others do not have the greatest internet connection. This is what makes DS wonderful. Online play is so much fun when you get a good host. My only big problem online is it seems like it is difficult to get a good killstreak. Either you run out of bullets fast (gun I use only has 50 for an automatic), or the other team respawns right behind you. For only being 6v6 the game play is extremely fast I feel like I am in a 12vs12 game. Single player is pretty fun. At times I feel like it is a Hollywood video. This game for a console is differently a 10/10 for a score. On PC? I give it a 70%. IWNET is a good idea. Its just not what the pc community needs. Why would I spend 1000 dollars on a pc and get the same experience as a console player? Consoles can get away with higher pings. I mean freak they have aim assist..... If MW3 comes out with no dedicated servers I will pass on that title. The game being fun is not worth 60 dollars for being a direct console port. If you are a sole extreme FPS shooter, you may want to pass on this game.
