After completing Modern Warfare, I was hyped about Modern Warfare 2. I should mention that I haven't played both of these in the year they released because my computer couldn't handle the requirements, until I had invested into a gaming computer in late 2009). MW2 was quite fun in gameplay and the graphics were greatly improved (in the CoD series, not to compare with other games). The gameplay was awesome and intense (story wasn't that much in-depth), but it came short of length as it was finished instantly. The multiplayer was not in my interest because Modern Warfare's interests me more and I won't waste my rank on MW2 starting over. MW2 is a great game, but it's really short in its campaign and the lack of dedicated servers may put-off others into diving into multiplayer like me. i purchased it at $60 via Steam, but now it's $50 .. if you don't mind the short campaign, well then I guess it's up to you to whether buy it or not. BTW, I'm sure you have heard of the controversies of MW2 .. I won't get into details of it as others have probably already listed here and elsewhere, but the game does give you an option of skipping the level without effecting the entire story. It might be sensitive to others or it may not .. I found it to be really risky featuring a level like that, but it did show me what those in the government like the CIA or spies have to undertake.
Lets just start out by saying Good game....POOR Multiplayer................
PC gamers by PC games to pick your servers, play some modded maps, see your ping..............
They took everything, that made playing PC games better than console other than my keyboard and mouse, and threw it out....thanks for stabbing PC gamers in the back.
Nothing but COD 4 with all the good stuff taken out.
Save your money, COD 4 or COD 5:WOW for the PC is much better. If you have both of these you don't need this version.
pros:
good gameplay
online gameplay that's addicting
cons:
campaign is a lot like the first modern warfare
I enjoy all the intense shooting and great graphics which gives
this game a 5 star. The weapons look great and there are MANY bad
guys to shoot-I LOVE IT!. I happened to have a Steam account which
puts me in great online play-works great!!The Co-op SOLO is fantastic
for I love the LONE WOLF effect without any squad. I play single player
mostly-this is fabulous. Do not be fooled by the single star reviews-
these people do not know what great shooting fun this is. The name of
the game is the FUN FACTOR, INTENSE SHOOTING, AND GOOD ONLINE GAMING.
MAKE IT HAPPEN GUYS, I DID...it may be short, but a fast quickie can be
very fullfilling....The Solo Co-op has 23 challenges which in itself is
worth the price for this game - even without the SP-great and Multiplayer!!
In Stever We Trust...
I was so excited, so looking forward to this game, I was nervous about the shields (when have you ever seen modern operators using something like this...they are for stand-off urban situations). I was chagrined when I heard about akimbo (go on youtube and watch special operators -SEALS, SAS, whomever-NEVER will you see them use akimbo shooting: duh. I was speechless when I heard that you can run around and knife people with some of the perks (can you imagine how impossible it would be in a firefight to knife someone: ask any airsofter that carries a knife, how much he has used it; ask me-I've tried to knife people 3 times and died all three-my friend has done it once). And finally, the server issues. I will not be buying this: although I've read and seen it and read some more, they really S--- the money bed on this one. How sad...how very sad...
I promise when I get billions of dollars I will make a really great game for gamers who like modern combat. The guns will be realistic and their damage and weight and settings and reliability. The maps will have different sizes and there will be LOTS of server control and servers. There will be urban and forest, and jungle and so on maps and different times of day and vehicles, on or off...and the movement and fighting will be very much like CS and Modern Warfare...but oh my...why is this so hard to do...why why why?
Anyway, I can't think of anything amusing to write I am so disappointed and it's all in my head right now.
First off, Modern Warfare 2 is an amazing game. It is. However, I think it's important for people to know the reasons why the PC version is what it is, so here is a statement by Robert Bowling, creative director for Modern Warfare 2, who sums it up nicely:
"Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is actually the biggest investment Infinity Ward has ever made into the PC version of our games. It's also the most feature-rich PC version we've ever made. IWNET takes the benefits of dedicated servers and allows them to be utilized and accessed by every player, out of the box, while removing the barrier to entry for players unaware of how to maintain a server on their own.
How does it do this?
Matchmaking & Smoother Gameplay: When you want to player a multiplayer game on PC, in the past. You'd have to scroll through a Server Browser which listed every available server which was hosted by individual server admins. Each had their own private rules, mods, or ways of playing the game. Most players would also use the server browser to find just the best quality game (based on PING). With IWNET matchmaking, it takes all that into account for you. All you have to do is select the playlist (pre-set gametypes with custom rules) that fits the style of play you are in the mood for. When you do, it will automatically find you a game with the best performance, ping, and preferences based on your location and individual connection as well as matching you with players of your same SKILL. So you're always guaranteed the best game performance for where you are and what connection you're playing on as well as an equal game with other players of your same skill level, not rank, but skill level. It doesn't mean you'll just be thrown into a random game! It will put you in the game that will give you the smoothest gameplay possible without you having to manually find a server with the best ping.
Playlists and Private Matches: As I described above, Playlists are pre-set game modes and gametypes for public games. If you just want to jump into a public game of Search and Destroy or Hardcore Search and Destroy and you don't care about fully customizing it, then you can utilize playlists to do that quickly for you. However, say you're in a clan and you want to play a Clan match with another team, or you want to practice for an upcoming tournament that has specific rules in a private game. Then you can start a Private Match (which is essentially like running your own private server) where you have complete control over the rules, who can join, boot players you don't want, and essentially control the entire game or tweak it to your liking. Once the rules are set, you can invite the other team in or just start it up with your clan to practice with the custom rules before the match. This now allows you to play custom games out of the box without the need to install mods, find a modded server with the rules you like, or worry about not being in control of the match.
Party System and Friendslist: Modern Warfare 2 on PC also makes it much easier if you want to party up with your friends, or again, with your clan for a match. You can utilize the friendslist to see when your friends are online, and invite them to your Party. A Party allows you to move from game to game as a group. It's great for clan matches, because you can party of with your clan and move from public game to public game together. Or if you're doing a scrim, party up and invite the other clan (who is in a party) and they'll all join at once. Set up a private match together and play. It makes setting up scrims or games with friends easier and hassle free.
Cheat / Hack Free Games: The biggest benefit of using IWnet by far is the fact that you don't have to worry about joining a server full of aim-bots, wallhacks, or cheaters. Or relying on the server admin of the server to constantly be monitoring, banning, and policing it. Modern Warfare 2 on PC allows us to control the quality of the game much more than ever before as well as utilizing the VAC (Valve-Anti-Cheat) system to keep games clean of hackers and cheaters.
All in all, IWNET adds a load of new features that the PC version of our games have never had before and allows us an infrastructure to continue to update and improve on the game post-launch."
... so there you have it. It's still an amazing game in my opinion, which is why I give it five stars. However, I completely understand why people would be put off by the PC version. For those people, I highly suggest waiting for Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Limited Edition, due in March 2010. That game will be much better suited for the hardcore PC audience.
People need to stop crying, this game is great. I guess they get some sense of accomplishment by rating this game poorly, which clearly affected it sales(it broke virtually every first day entertainment record. Game plays great, match making>dedicated servers, the profiles and stats being stored on IWNET is a great addition. I can guarantee you half of the people 1 starring this game probably already own it. Quit being so butthurt and grow up, supernerds
My only problem with the game is not the game itself its with "Steam" the setup prg. In the other Call Of Duity games you had a very easy to access option if you wanted to go on the internet or not. The new one Modern Warfare 2
automaticaly conects you and the instructions to shut it off are clear as mud. You yourself should have that option and not have it done automaticaly.
I would like to see how the new Medal of Honor will top this, the trailer came out but I'm not that graphically impressed :P But Let's see how they do.
The game is a blast to play with, even the multiplayer, it is hard to find someone who is really disappointed in this game. But yes the Campaign is pretty short.
I do wish they actually had a co-op thought, spec ops is alright, but both me and my sister was hoping for better co-op experience.
I was very surprised how well this game came together. On a graphics side, it is one of the better ones I have seen. I am a multiplayer mode gamer, so I was nervous about some of the sudden changes that were made to the game. However, I am used to the steam style with L4D, so this game setup is working great for me and my LAN group. The single player mode is pretty decent, better than COD4, with much detail. I would rather play a single player that last 5 hours and kicks some major butt, than a endless, boring story line. The multiplayer maps are incredible, so many hiding places, rooftops, crawl spaces, etc, options are endless. The weapons are great with some very good "care packages" so I cannot complain. If you liked COD4, you should like this one too. There are some pretty harsh critics, which I feel are more based on the decisions made by ifw, but I personally know some harsh critics that have come to the realization that... it's not so bad! Get this game, or don't, up to you. I took a chance and am very pleased with the game play and it will keep me busy for a long time.
I just picked this game up today from Gamestop and let me say it is well worth the $10 more compared to when MW1 was new.
Graphics: AMAZING (5/5). No detail was left overlooked, small things really make a big difference like on the snowy mission your screen looks slightly frozen in the corners, or how the blood on the screen looks 10x more realistic then MW1. The lighting is so realistic and very very nice. Gun and model detail are superb, best I have seen in a PC game to date.
Online Play: (4/5). Alot of people are raging about this. It really is not that bad. You select a game mode you want to play in multiplayer (team deathmatch, deathmatch, etc..) then they pair you up with 17 other people very quickly. The person with the best computer is automatically picked to host the game. And viola you are playing. 18 People really is not that bad, it is much more realistic then having 60 players in one game anyway. Not to mention much less laggy. There are 5 or so classes you pick from, each with a different role, which is more balanced. There are TONS of unlocks and achievements in MW2 multiplayer compared to MW1. The online play options and menu system is also very sleek and works well.
Campaign Mode: (5/5). One word that can describe it: adrenaline. From sneaking around in a wintry storm covertly taking out a whole base, to driving your own snowmobile around taking out enemies, to manning a mini gun mounted on a hummer, the campaign mode has been drastically improved. It is FAST paced, realistic, and makes you think about what you are doing.
Overall I gave this a 5/5, while the dedicated server aspect has been removed I don't see that as a justification to give the game as a WHOLE a bad review. Personally I will miss the dedicated servers, but at the same time the new online play is balanced and less laggy, so it's not so bad. The good by FAR outweighs the bad with this game.
I highly recommend this if you love first person shooters and if you have loved all the other Call of Duty games (besides COD3, that one was horrible).
Very reallistic game. Lots of action. The graphics are very detailed. The sounds are really such good quality that you would think that it was real. The story lines are like what might happen in real war events. This game is one that you should put at the top of your list to get and play.
Great game, highly worth buying. The story is intense and left me wanting more.
I do agree with reviews they should of left in leaning.
Good job IW with the single player story line. I haven't played multiplayer yet so I cannot comment on that.
As the countless others asked I do hope IW adds dedicated servers with a recent patch.
What's wrong with you people this game is awesome! There's tons to do and the provided servers work great except for a rare lagg and host migration. Would definitely recommend!
