Well I just finished the "series" of Call of Duty, the first one to this newest one. It was awsome! I dont know why the low scores? Yea,if you go online to play its awful, way too many hackers. I dont particularly enjoy a 6 year
kid cussing me out, just because he loves to hack. I am looking foward to the new on coming out in Nov. But I will say its much better than playing Combat Arms! Talk about hackers! Try it out and enjoy it for what it is!
do i really need to detail it? it's been outlined in every other review up and down this page. until IW can get their act together and enable what their customers want, they will continue to receive bad reviews. i wonder what the programmers are thinking throughout all of this? poor guys, i bet they are probably equally appalled and they had to make the game!
Graphics: 5 Stars
Sound: 5 Stars
AI: 5 Stars
Single Player Campaign: 3 Stars. Single player campaign was too short. Finished game in several hours
Multiplayer: 5 Stars
Overall this was an excellent game. Only disappointment was the short campaign
I wasn't aware of the boycott, as I'm not a hardcore gamer. I wasn't following the release of MW2, so I hadn't heard how disappointed people were. I was oblivious to all of this happening, just waiting to get the game.
Until now. I came here, logged into my Amazon account with 1-Click Ordering enabled, ready to buy the PC version of this game. After reading these reviews, I won't be doing so. Good job ruining this game Infinity Ward. I'll be playing Team Fortress 2.
As many other reviewers have pointed out, this game has the worst case of multiplatform sickness of all time.
Although the SP for CoD4 was short as well, there's nothing changed here. This campaign can be completed in about 5 hours.
Although not on a console this version is still 60 dollars which is absolutely insane, as those extra 10 dollars typically go to the console manufacturor. The extra money here is just going to Activision for their hard work in wrangling multiple devs to release a new version of their Guitar Hero and Call of Duty franchises every year, despite the growing costs and demands of game development in this generation.
Limited MP support. That's right guys, the time tested server list is gone, no longer are you allowed to choose which games you want to play. IWNet will do it for you. Bringing back the old P2P design scheme and discarding the newer dedicated server format is a horrible choice IMO, as not only are you limited by what kind of game you want to play, a poor connection will gimp the entire match for everybody.
Lean is gone. This may seem like a small complaint but it is proof positive that this game was intended for consoles and consoles only, and that buying it on the PC is really not worth it except for the improved graphics, and yes they are improved by a huge margin this time around. This is the only benefit to buying this on PC.
The PC version is gimped and missing console and dedicated servers. The online play is totally unplayable unless everyone has 4 bars. If you try to play with yellow bars you're screwed because it will lag horribly.
WOW what an amazing game probably the best in the COD series. Multiplayer console is very streamlined and easy to use. Multiplayer is very challenging, however. The single player campaign is fantastic. Will do it again at a harder level
I should have done my research before buying MW2, but come on it's modern warefare 2 what could have went wrong? Well I sure found out in a hurry. The game itself is fun if abit short, pretty much what you expect from modern warefare. But why I and everyone else really get this game is the multiplayer. And oh boy IW really screwed the pooch on that one.
Everything PC gamers expect from mulitplayer heavy titles, which was also by the way in MW1; is not present here. The horribly low player cap and complete lack of dedicated servers being the most grevious offenses. I've been trying to play online and its a total gamble, sometimes it runs okay with a decent host, and other times I'm moving in slow motion through jello.
Not cool IW.
I ran out today and bought this game. I've played it enough to know that it is a good game.
...but it should have been a great game.
The bias against PC gamers is overwhelmingly obvious and disgusts me. Next time, just don't make a PC version. Between Steam pre-order screwups and IW putting about 3 seconds of effort into the PC port, it comes across as an insult.
People paying to pre-order a game that they can't play until a few days AFTER the rest of the world gets it? Really?
No dedicated servers? Really???
No games bigger than 9 vs. 9??
You will not get another cent from me, Activision...and I'm pretty angry with you, too, Steam.
One of the best games I ever played, very good animations, excellentr graphics and lots of play fun. Only disadvantage I see so far is the multiplayer function which was much better in COD4 "modern Warfare1" Well, since I heard lot of people complaining about it, I hope, that the implement the same Multiplayer Modus like they have in COD 4.
I know a lot of people are upset about the multiplayer but I am writing this as a reviewer who only plays singleplayer.
From what I can tell the singleplayer in this game is a great continuation of the first Modern Warfare. It is addictive and fun and worth playing many times. However, there is one level called the 'No Russian' level which has you playing as a terrorist and attempting to kill as many unarmed civilians as possible in an airport. While this is crucial to the story, I felt it should have been a CUT SCENE instead of a potential terrorist training game. No doubt many people feel the same, and you will too, if you play it. Thankfully, you can skip this level (Infinity Ward seems to acknowledge that this level is in bad taste so they put in a level skip option). Suffice it to say I'll never play this level again.
There is an interesting but short gameplay mode call Spec Ops that comes in addition to the singleplayer game. It is definitely fun playing these with a friend but it doesn't last very long.
Multiplayer perks are all back but as many have noted the PC version is gimped, and most of what you expect to have in the PC version but not the console isn't there.
If you're like me and mostly play singleplayer you'll enjoy this game. Otherwise, if you want multiplayer, I would suggest you read all the other reviews here.
This game on any console is awesome. I have it for PC and 360 and both seem to have its pros and cons. I've been a gamer since I was 4 back in 1986 and have been playing games and pc games ever since. I know what I like and you should too. Dont let some 13 year old punk-kid review ruin a game because he didn't get what he wanted. Get if you have the system and love the mouse over the 360 or PS3 controller. Like I said, been playing for awhile and I've adapted my skills to m/k and controllers. I'm in the military and I've even adpapted my skills for FPS and games alike on a laptop touchpad while deployed.
The whole max cap on players in matches and dedi servers is cool and all, but it didn't ruin this game at all. Get it already!!!!!
i hoped, buying this, i wouldn't have to go through the trouble of an already activated key and/or a bad disc, but everything was great and the delivery was fast too.
First, I dont know why so many people say its not worth buying, but this is my first time buying Modern Warfare 2, and I think its "Awesome." "Gorgeous." "A Phenomenon." and "No one is better at delivering jaw-dropping action moments than Infinity Ward, as Gamespot, 1UP.com, Gamepro and Game Informer said to this game.
The Singleplayer:
Maybe its a bit short, but its still fantastic!!!!! I think the story line is great although I didnt watch all the cutscenes. I loved the sniper missions and the last missions (The End Game and Night at the Museum). The fast-paced action missions some are great but I think some are average.
The Spec Ops:
Great, but not awesome. its a bit boring playing the most of the maps that appear in the campaign and Ive totally no idea what the missions are about =-= but itll still bring you a lot of fun playing with your friends :)
The Multiplayer:
Simply MARVALOUS!!!(althoguh maybe this is the first playing Modern Warfare 2) it has many maps, perks, death streaks, equipments and you can fully customize your own classes, what a great idea! its mostly 80 - 120 ping but I played with it smoothly, and only 1/10 chance it will lag
Some positive and negatives about this game from other reviewers and me:
1. Text chatting! Now you can text chat to your buddies in-game while online, what fantastic innovation! (Yeah!)
2. Adjustable graphics setting -- gotta give them points for adding that feature, while console users are stuck with their 720/1080 resolution, you can max it up all the way depending on your hardware! Amazing stuff...although every game has had this feature since the beginning of PC gaming. (Fantastic!)
3. The ability to use your mouse and keyboard! Now you can unplug your xbox controller and use your computer accessories for a more accurate FPS experience! (WOW o.O)
4. You'll have a fantastic smooth time connecting to IWNet; its so perfect, it'll even give you XBox Live error messages! (Hoorah!!)
(5. it has amazing campaign, multiplayer and spec ops!!!)
Now, the negatives:
1. You're paying more for an inferior product. $60 vs $50. The consoles have a valid excuse for charging more -- $10.00 goes to the console manufacturer (Sony or Microsoft), Activision is just being greedy here; really quite unacceptable, especially in today's economy. (Hmm... I bought this game somewhere else and its about $50.)
2. Dedicated servers removed -- don't even get me started; I'm sure you've heard of the petition which is nearing 200,000 signatures to re-include dedicated servers. We're left with a terrible online experience. I played the first Modern Warfare (MW) on the PS3 which had peer to peer online play and it was disastrous. Expect drop outs and poor performance. The host of the game will always have the advantage because they have the better latency. (its really disappointing though)
3. No mods. This is surprising because so many other popular games were developed from mods including -- Counterstrike, Team-fortress 2 and Left 4 Dead. The only reason I can think of why IW/Activision would want to do such a thing would be to charge for content later on. I remember paying for 3 maps for the first MW -- and to tell you the truth, it really wasn't worth it. :(
4. Steam required. When you install the game you are required to install the Steam platform and link it to an e-mail address, and your Steam username. This makes reselling the game next to impossible. (first, steam is not something bad, but it really makes reselling impossible)
5. Feels and plays more like a Modern Warfare 1.5 then a Modern Warfare 2.0; the graphics are alright for todays standard, but I was expecting a lot more from IW for a two year development cycle. (Ive no idea what MW 1 is, so no comments)
6. Short single player. Since they've gimped the multiplayer aspect, and the single player can roughly be finished in 6-7 hours, I suggest you rent this on the console if you have one. (I think the campaign is fantastic and it worths replaying and collecting those intels)
7. Multiplayer only allows 9 vs 9 (18 player) matches. MW1 allows up to 64 -- does more mean more enjoyable? No, not necessarily, but at least there is choice and server admins were able to set it to their liking. (I think MW2 is like a console game as it only allows 18 players and change the formats the pc, its like playing ps3/xbox360 more than a pc)

OK, at last, I recommend this game to EVERYONE thats the first time playing the MW series BUT not really for hardcore players that is expecting Mods, custom maps, 32 VS 32 in multiplayer and 100 hours of campaign...
Don't listen to all the people complaining because there are no dedicated servers and only 18 players online. If the game had more than 18 players it would not be enjoyable BECAUSE..They have designed the maps smaller. If you had more than 18 you be to cramped and constantly dying. The single player was very good but short like Modern Warfare. Take my advise if you like the first modern warfare than your going to like this one.
