I have only played the single person part, so this a review of it. This game is a step in the right direction. It is action packed from the start to the finish. It ran great on my machine maxed out and I found no real problems in the code. If you like this type of military action, then you will love it.
I LOOVED MW1. I have been playing it non-stop online since I bought it (of course I beat the single player). When MW2 was anounced I was so happy. Got it day of release, shame on me for not reading the preview buzz. It seems the game is completely gimped and broken on the PC. The multiplayer experience, as PC gamers are used to, is completely gone. Still a great single player game, however it was way shorter than the first game. Wait for a patch to fix the server issue, till then, avoid.
Call of Duty Modern Warfare is one of the best games ever. The single player has an excellent story and ending, and the multiplayer is always fun to play against your friends(or enemies :) online.
The game is nothing but a downgrade. Less features, less fun.
here is what you loose if you go from modern warfare 1 to modern warfare 2
console commands (lack of console prevents you from modding the game experience)
no dedicated server (no server mods, no custom maps, and much more lag since instead of a powerful server hosting the game, it is another users computer, and even worst that user will get a 0 ping while everyone else has a high ping, this gives them a unfair advantage)
all this is is modern warfare 1 with 70% of the features removed and a few new single player missions.
save your money and wait for this game to hit the bargain bin for $10
or boycott it until the makers of the game, fix these problems
Nonstop action, incredible graphics and great story, a must have game; a record breaking game of the next generation!
The singleplayer experience and Spec Ops are quite amazing. It's too bad that the multiplayer is chock full of lag and hackers rendering it unplayable -- both issues which are resolved by, you guessed it: dedicated servers.
Even though I miss the features, I can still endure a smaller FOV, capped framerates, and lack of lean because everyone is on an even playing field with the same limitations in that sense. But the lag makes whether you kill someone or die a mere roll of the dice as far as the hit detection goes. And despite Steam's weekly VAC ban updates, the number of wall hackers and aim botters is actually rising dramatically as time progresses. In the first two weeks or so of playing I only ran into a few hackers in about 30 hours of playing, and it wasn't that bad to be honest. But in the last week I have encountered at least twice as many hackers in less than half the time frame. They have no reason to fear either -- several of them admit openly because they know they won't get caught. There are more hackers on this game than on the free fps Combat Arms. Suffice it to say, if you have any experience with that title you know what a joke it is. Anyone can hack on that game after a two minute google search, and there are youtube videos made by people showing off using hacks. I haven't looked yet but I'm sure such videos exist for Modern Warfare 2.
Bottom line is, if you don't care for a good multiplayer experience, it's worth the money. Otherwise, don't even bother wasting your time.
Great first person shooter. From the graphics to the gameplay to the extensive amount of weapons, I love it. Honostly I like so much, if not everything about it, I'm just going to say the only thing I don't like. One, like any FPS, there are INSANELY good players on it so that until you get pretty good you will get destroyed when playing with them. But, besides that, I have no other problems, and if you've ever experienced the problem I just described then you know it's no big deal and it's still the best FPS out there, so I say--BUY!
Pretty intense game, continued the great aspects that made cod4 so excellent, while adding a few new twists to keep it enthralling. Single player was insanely entertaining and cinematic, but he multiplayer experience seems to have been slowed down a little bit. It is, however, a lot of fun, and the single player more than makes up for the changes.
I just recieved this game today at 10AM from UPS and ive been playing a good 3hours on campagin.
Sure enough my hopes were met with the amazing story line which takes place 5years after MW1's story.
I pre-ordered this game which came with a $20 discount toward my next video game purchase through Amazon. It was originally a $10 discount code but due to majority of kids complaining about how theres no dedicated server support and cancelling their orders, Amazon bumped it from $10 to $20. So thank you kids for wanting your money back and not deciding to buy it for release date!
Also considering it was 59.99 + $20 discount code for your next game purchase it comes down to basically $39.99 right?! (this is minus the shipping & tax of course)
And yeah it is a bummer that they took off dedicated server support, but who really cares? REALLY REALLY??
NOTE: Take a look over at the PS3 and XBOX360 versions and look at their ratings.
This review section is just spammed with people boycotting the best FPS game yet.
You dont see them complaining about how terrible this game is. You act like your not going to buy this game and deep down you know in the end you will buy it one way or another.
Seriously if $60 is the biggest purchase of your life, you should reconsider since the fact that you guys(kids) would start a petition to boycott MW2 over this is just plain sad. I have better things to do than to whine about waiting for an amazing game to be released and what no Dedicated servers?
Also think about L4D(yes i know you can have a dedicated server on l4d), but im talking pure gameplay with friends on a 4v4. Sure occasionally we get stuck with the laggy server, but all in all we just play to play with friends.
Yeah Yeah I know very well for a fact that since us PC gamers vs Console gamers we have the upper hand in graphics and etc due to allowing us to configure our FPS settings, mods, etc. But do you really need all these to play? If so you should stick to your RPG games like AION or WOW.
NOTE:
Isnt it funny how the first 6 reviews were posted at 1AM, as if you went out to gamestop to wait for the release, then ran home to play for 30minutes, then came on here to whine and complain about how your hard earned $60 is gone.
Yes I do know that you can buy it off steam but you cant play till Nov 12 Thursday. Kinda seems like the first reviews were just plain posted due to the kids who wanted to boycott and make some marginal difference in the companys profit. LOL
my money will be going to bf:bc2, what IW did to pc gamers is horrendous, they don't deserve my money, nor my time. if they ever plan on fixing this broken game, i will buy it, and i will buy games from them once again. but until they fix this, i do not plan on buying any activision games
DO NOT BUY. Costs more than part one, is worse than part one....should I go on? AND IT HAS DRM !!! GET OUT !
I think MW2 rocks. Just placed my second order for it with Amazon for it this morning. No significant bugs, great entertainment, fantastic graphics--what's not to like? Another great game at a price--yes, even $60--that is actually cheaper than games sold just ten years ago when calculated in 2009 dollars.
But here's the sad part: when no company wants to risk releasing a game on the PC in the future, all we'll have to do is look here on the pages of Amazon reviews to find out why. Hope you like consoles because the sad fact is that the one-star naysayers are pounding the nails in the coffin of the PC game at an alarming rate.
Well where should i start... there is not much to be said about this game except that it's single player is great ... for that they get 5 stars but for the rest online etc ... let me put this way went back to playing modernwarfare call of duty 4 .
Activision Blizzard said that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has sold $550 million worth in five days.
It didn't say how many units this represented and the figure is an internal estimate, but it claims that it beats all previous sell through records, including Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince,The Dark Knight, and Grand Theft Auto IV.
I suppose this review will sound more parroting what others have said so I'll try to at least differentiate it somewhat.
For starters I pre-ordered this from Amazon and I've already requested an RMA from them to return the game. That alone should give you an idea of what kind of game you're getting that literally is returned within 24 hours.
I've played pretty much every Call of Duty that ever was released for the PC. Each iteration was a solid, polished number that always was a blast to play, and multiplayer was pretty much a high octane fragfrest that operated smoothly and with no glitches or problems. I've held up Infinity Ward along the likes of companies like Blizzard, Bioware and Valve for making top-notch games that sell well and are a great value as well.
I initially balked at the 60$ pricetag, but I assumed they must be shoving in a whole lot of content to justify it. With the release date fast approaching and no word on what exactly we were doing with the PC version I got a little concerned but I figured we'd get our usual PR blitz detailing what kind of features were present on the PC. Then of course the news broke about the Dedicated Servers, but given IW's stellar track record, I was willing to give them the benefit of the doubt, even with the utterly ridiculous PR blahs they were issuing about how the PC version is so great. ("it has text chat and mouse aim!" "The game is not balanced for lean" "We feel the game is balanced for 100 ping and is playable" Yes, they actually said those were "features")
Yesterday I got the game and played it like crazy trying to find that great feeling that I got from playing MW1 but I found that it pretty much was not there, and the glaring flaws with the game stuck out like sore thumbs and severely detracted from the experience.
Having now played the single player and tried the multi-player I've come to the conclusion that IW is more or less done with PCs in general. I attribute this to several points that I've noticed with the game itself and the attitude with which they've reacted with this whole mess:
-The Price Tag - Perhaps my biggest sticking point. Charging 60$ for an even shorter single player campaign and REMOVING features from Multiplayer is perhaps my biggest beef with this game. I could understand if they included say Dev Tools, some special in-game weapon or even, as the dead horse writhes, dedicated servers, but there is none. Nothing. You get literally a straight console port whose only settings you can fiddle with is what kind of speaker set up you have and how high your resolution can go. That's it. That is not an improvement that is a sidegrade at best, and not even Hans Freaking Zimmer doing his voodoo he does so well can change that.
-The Multiplayer - From a pure business perspective (Business Major Hooah!) I can understand what they're trying to accomplish with IWnet, I really do. They wish to (attempt to) clamp down on piracy and have a more direct say in the direction the modding and DLC is to go with the future of the game itself. Still, as a consumer, that really doesn't sit well with me. Having to downgrade my multiplayer experience (don't get my started on host migration as it is terrible and given the wait times I had to experience in just WAITING for a match to start is indicative of how people are already abandoning IWnet. Also ping is still a major issue. I run DSL and my ping never really stablized to the point that lag was not an issue.) with the next succession of the series definitely does not endear oneself in continuing to patronize the products IW offers. Also effectively killing off 3rd party MOD support and development with this change was another sore point in this matter as well.
-The Attitude of IW - This I suppose is more subjective and small potatoes in the grand scheme of things, but I still feel it is relevant to the point about this whole debacle. Judging by the quality of the PC version of this game, it is obvious (to me at least) that IW does not wish to actively participate in the PC market any longer. The sheer lack of features, the higher price (for what bizarre reason I have yet to discover) and the substandard multiplayer has made it apparent that this was a straight console port through and through with no thought to what the PC players were interested in.
Now let me be clear, I understand IW is a business and it is their prerogative to make money. If they feel that the PC platform is not something that they can support any longer than they should have come out and just said it. This whole ninja press release baloney and not revealing these details on just how gimped the PC version is until a month before release highlights the callousness that IW exhibits towards the PC gaming crowd and quite frankly I don't appreciate it. They are free to do what they do, but I would just appreciate in the future a bit more candor and up-front honesty in their dealings. You don't want to develop for the PC? Fine, make a press release and be on your way, don't try to sneak this in and then get all bent out of shape when we start screaming bloody murder about how badly handled this PC launch was.
In short, I would not recommend buying this game for the PC. The combination of high Price, lack of distinct features from the consoles and substandard multiplayer do not make it a viable option for the PC. Buy it for the console if you're jonesing for your MW fix, I suspect that is where we shall see the majority of their future efforts.
