Aliens vs Predator (Xbox 360)
Aliens vs Predator (Xbox 360) Reviews
So far I really like this game. I will go ahead and give it 5 stars even though it's probably not the greatest game ever. I expected it not to be. I knew that it would be fun and it is. It doesn't have to stack up to the Call of Duty series or Halo because it's different and that's the way I like it. I will also give it 5 stars because I know that many others will leave biased negative reviews and trash the game. The only thing about the game that I would have liked to see different is that the levels are a little too linear. I really haven't had a chance to play on multiplayer yet because I got the game early and there was nobody on. I started playing on the Marine campaign and, let me tell you it's a little creepy. It's dark and very atmospheric, just the way it should be. Your'e little motion tracker is thumping and you don't know when one of those aliens is going to just jump right out at you. You'll see the blips on youre tracker but they don't always come at you. Just the way it should be IMOP. Plus killing the aliens isn't always easy. They do maneuver just like they're supposed to and sometimes you will have to unload an entire clip on one just to kill it. The outer exoskeleton shell of the alien is hard like it's supposed to be and it takes a lot to kill the damn things. I think with the majority of negative reviewers they won't like a game unless it's Modern Warfare this day and age. I won't go into the details of the game because others on here are already taking care of that and I haven't played enough of it yet. I don't think I will be changing my stance on it the more I play. I like it. It's fun. That's all you need. It's so simple and doesn't need to be all complicated as to why a game is enjoyable. So far, so good!
I was a big fan of the 1999 release of AvP2. This game brings most of that back and fixes several problems I had encountered with the previous versions. First, mobility... Aliens are fast and nimble as they should be, at a sacrifice for durability. Predators can leap from tree to tree and ledge, you're strong and direct. Humans, many complain about balance here but I can assure you, if a human sees you coming, you won't make it to them. They've captured the spirit of the universe surprisingly well, even the AI humans will unload on the smallest sign of movement and keep firing wherever they deem trouble to come from... this is a refreshing (and useful in PvP) technique.
The trophy kills are brutal, very brutal, and they come at the expense of exposure. As a predator, you can leap from a tree, landing directly behind an enemy and kill them in silver-screen glory... but don't expect its friends not to light you up as you perform the spine-ectomy. The story-lines are very intersting and the sound effects are glorious, especially the human motion-tracker and the predator (well, pretty much everything).
Graphics aren't perfect, but certainly high-end enough to get the feeling. HUD's are perfect for the races. Some people have complained about controls, I haven't experience much difficulty here, it has a learning curve. The most difficult aspect is fighting a horde of quick moving aliens with your hands, the tracking system is not meant to accomidate multiple targets and is the only gripe I have. Target switching on the fly would have been nice.
If you're a fan of the movies, you'll dig the game, it lived up to my expectations most definitely. I perhaps am scoring a bit high based on my interest with the universe, but I can deal with that. Pick this one up if you're looking for a different kind of shooter/horror game.
I was really looking forward to playing this game and I really enjoyed playing the demo on both the PS3 and the xbox 360. I even went as far as getting a copy for myself and another for the kids that I picked up at my local Gamestop so that I wouldn't have to share. What a disappointment it was when I put it in and started playing the campaign. There's really no maps to guide you along your way, it's basically hit and miss. All 3 campaigns could have been a bit longer and more detailed. Game seemed kinda rushed and not totally put together. In my opinion not worth the $60 being asked.
The only thing that makes up for it is the multiplayer mode which even gets bland after a while. I love the fact that you get to be either Marine, Predator or Alien while in multiplayer mode and it's random so you never know who you're going to be in the next game but still could have been better all around.
