Some of the best video game characters come together for one of the best fighting games the genre has to offer. Characters from Mario to Sonic the Hedgehog from Pokemon to The Legend of Zelda universes square off in a variety of game modes (one of the most notable being the Adventure Mode: The Subspace Emissary). Probably what keeps gamers returning to this gem is the fact that there are so many unlockables and hidden features to uncover. I have had the game since its release and I probably don't even have half the hidden features unlocked yet, despite Super Smash Bros. Brawl being the only video game I have played in that time. The learning curve is fairly easy and even novices will not have much difficulty in learning the controls (which are customizable). The game is also challenging for veterans as well (compared with the previous Super Smash Bros. Melee game). The replay value is quite good and it is an excellent party game for when you have a lot of friends. The ability to play with other people over the internet (broadband required) gives the game more added incentive to play. I believe it is definitely worth the purchase, regardless if you like fighting games or not (as a general rule of thumb, I usually don't).
The only drawback that I should mention is that you need to update your Wii via a wireless internet connection in order to play the game (As of early March). Aside from that inconvenience it is a great investment.
