"Blah its worth a rental but not a buy. It's around 10 hours and nothing amazing. Ok hack and slash."
"This is a definite must have! The graphics are amazing and the gameplay, as in ps2... Great!"
These games have excellent stories, excellent graphics (they were excellent on PS2, you can't add to that but PS3 found a way) and excellent controls.
I hate this type of game & I was never planning on playing them at all let alone purchasing them. I've got an open mind though so a co-worker that happened to be getting a 'return from a borrow' let me borrow the first GOW and I've been hooked since. Yes, its pretty much a button masher but the story line is excellent to the point where even if you do happen to get bored with the gameplay (you won't though) it would keep you hooked. You can get through the game pretty quick & its not very hard (except for the second part of the boss battle with Ares) but its very fun and the graphics make it seem like you're actually in the game world.
I definitely wouldn't get this for kids though. Very high level of violence & hints of sex are all over both games and for those that haven't heard the stories of mythological Gods of Greece will be misled b/c the stories are twisted up & stamped with the game writers story line (a good one but not what you've heard in the past).
These ended up being a couple of the funnest games I've ever played (I've got a pretty short list of 'memorable games' but these make the list).
Very much worth the low price. If I had a PS3, I'd buy them. (I played through them on my brother's PS3 so my review is valid for this version, but also extends to the PSII versions).
Seriously...pounding on a button to kill bosses is pedantic and ridiculous. I went back and bought this game on a whim and regret every minute of it. The idea that you have to sit and pound on buttons to kill bosses in this game ruins the great story and cool combat that otherwise would have made a solid action game. People look at this game as some kind of holy grail but I canceled my pre-order for GOW 3 after playing both of these sad excuses for action games. RENT this collection first, even if its only 30 bucks...it is cheap and boring.
I was one of the few who never picked up God of War and missed out on a much hyped game (and then the sequel). When I first got the game I played both just to check out the gameplay and graphics. I am impressed with not only the gameplay but also the graphical improvements that make it very playable on my 52 inch screen. The games themselves are not for everyone as they are rated M (blood some cartoon nudity) but they are innovative in many respects and well worth owning.
The bottom line is you get two great games with hours of gameplay that will leave you wanting to purchase the third installment which will inevitably look great on the PS3 blue ray system. I would recommend this to anyone looking for an action title on the PS3.
