Mario was a presnt for my Grandson in America, and he is delighted with it. It is good to know that whilst I am in the UK and he is in the USA, I can still send him gifts in the knowledge that they will arrive OK. Thank you.
Mario has been out long since i was born. Its one of the best games that was played back then. when technology has grown, graphics and gameplay has improved. storyline was based on the original Nintendo's Super Mario 64 for Nintendo 64. They made improvements on the new version on the DS. they included some characters that you can play and some new levels were added to the game. I believe before, the Nintendo 64 version, Super Mario 64 is a game where you have to save princess toadstool and other specific things. you also have to collect certain stars to get to certain places. In the Nintendo 64 version, you have to collect 120 stars while the new verion on the Nintendo DS, you have to collect 150 stars, Making this game longer, harder and much more fun. I rate this game a 5 out of 5.
Some technical features of this game from the offical Nintendo Website:
Features
* Play as Mario, Yoshi, Luigi and even Wario. You'll need to use each one's unique abilities to find 150 Power Stars hidden in the castle and grounds.
* Play through Adventure mode and try your stylus-wielding hand at tons of new touch-sensitive mini-games.
* Battle up to three friends in Wireless Versus mode, which you can play with only one Super Mario 64 DS game card.
Each of the four main characters has multiple jumping moves that cover great horizontal and vertical distances. Each has unique moves: Yoshi can eat enemies and turn them into eggs that he can throw; Mario can punch, kick and wall-jump to great heights; super-strong Wario can break certain blocks; and Luigi can jump incredibly high. Power Flowers give each character even cooler powers, like invisibility, fire breath or the power to float through the air.
Story
Answering an invitation, Mario, Luigi and Wario set out for a royal party with Princess Peach. When they arrive at the castle, though, they find it strangely empty. Meanwhile, Yoshi awakes from a rooftop nap to find the castle eerily silent, with Mario, Luigi and Wario nowhere to be seen. Yoshi soon discovers that Bowser has pilfered the castle's Power Stars and imprisoned the Toads in the castle's immense collection of paintings. It's up to the dynamic dino to figure out what happened to Mario, Luigi and Wario and save the day.
Bottom Line
Super Mario 64 DS is much more than just a port of the Nintendo 64 version of the game. New worlds, new characters, new moves and the addition of action-packed minigames make this title bigger and better than ever before!
In thought this game will be the best game that DS will have to offer. But lets think back when Nintendo 64 was the coolest system ever. Super Mario 64 was the best on that. I know personally because I used to have.(Now I cashed it in for the DS)This game has a very good story line, not mentioning the overall game. It had great grahpics. And the funny thing was that when you turned on the game you saw Mario and you got to move his face around. But getting back this game. It is improved because you get to play as 4 characters, Mario; Luigi; Wario; and Yoshi. This is great because it still holds the same graphics as on the 64. I saw some pictures of this game, and truly it is AWESOME. If you are buying the Nintendo DS, this game is a must have.
Tons of fun, my kids (2.5 and 5 yrs) love playing the mini games and trying to play the real game (watching the characters run around
I realy liked this game. You can be four characters (dont listen to the guy that said "Read this now!!!!!"). To get Wario, Luigi, and Mario must get a certain amount of stars before you unlock. If you are doing bad or need help go to cheat planet. They give you tips, not cheats.
My brother bought the original Super Mario 64 for the N64 nearly ten years ago and the both of us played the heck out of it. IT'S one of the best platform games out there, including both 2D and 3D. As for this port, for the most part it's a faithful translation of the original while at the same time expanding it. Not only do we have the original game here, but Nintendo decided to expand it by adding thirty more stars for gamers to collect (150 over the original 120). Also, there are more secret levels in the game and now you can play not only as Mario, but as Luigi, Wario, and Yoshi. Finally, there are many mini-games using the touchscreen which are highly addictive. Graphic wise, it's better than the original. Control wise on the other hand it isn't quite as good as the original. The thing isn't so much the game's fault as it is the lack of an analogue stick on the DS. For the most part it isn't too bad, but can be somewhat frustrating, especially in the boss battles. Also, you now have to press a button to run, unlike the original where you automatically ran as gained speed using the analogue stick. These are just small complaints and shouldn't stop gamers to pick this excellent game up, rather they never played the original or are veterans.
I never owned a Nintendo 64 system, so the only times that I've played the original version of Super Mario 64 have been in various hotel rooms. But now that I own the new version of the game on the Nintendo DS system, I know that this new game is much better than the original.
One thing that I like better about this game is that in addition to Mario, you get to play as Luigi, Wario, and Yoshi. Each character has his own strengths and weaknesses. You'll start the game as Yoshi, my favorite character in the Mario games. After defeating certain bosses, you'll literally unlock the other three characters. Another thing that I like better is that there are now 150 hidden Stars to be found. That's 30 more than the original game.
Also, this game has lots of extra features. There are LOTS of mini-games to play. 8 of them are available to play right from the start by visiting the Rec Room. More mini-games can be unlocked by catching the rabbits that are hopping around the castle. And that's not all. You can battle up to 3 of your friends in Wireless Versus mode as you try to be the first one to catch all 5 stars.
The only thing that I don't really like about this game is that you need to really get acquainted with the controls. It is very hard to control the game, as the Nintendo DS doesn't have a Control Stick. There are three control modes: Standard, Touch, and Dual-Hand. Choose whichever one is most comfortable for you to use. Even though I don't really like the controls, I am overall very happy to own this game, and would recommend it to any Super Mario fan.
If you've ever played Mario 64 on the Nintendo 64 game system you'll see this is probably very similar. I never really played the Nintendo 64 version for more than a couple of hours total but there are parts in it that just look familiar. The only reason I didn't give the game 5 stars is because of the controls. It's kind of hard to move around in some parts of the game. This is mostly because this game was designed to be controlled with a control stick with 360 degree movement rather than the Up, Down, Left, Right control pad on the Nintendo DS. Other than that the game is pretty entertaining and challenging. On the back of the box it mentions that it's basically the whole game from the Nintendo 64 system PLUS even more levels. So it's like having the N64 game, plus more, and it's portable.... Good reasons to buy it.
This game is fun and offers a wide variety of mini games! I recommend! It isn't like the original 64 set up at all, but instead is more of a quest where you take the old characters.
This game has a lot to do, its really fun and I really enjoy playing it. You can even play mini games and do multi player mode. This is the greatest game in the world!!!!!!!!!!!!
My son got this for his brand-new DS Lite and has consistently played this game more than the others he got. The Mario franchise has always been high-quality, and this is no exception!
I'm new to the whole Nintendo DS and Mario game scene. I have a GBA but was never really good at most of the games.
The one problem I've been having and the reason I entered 4 stars for how much fun it is....was because of trying to use the stylus for moving the characters around. I know you don't "have" to use it but I did try and it just didn't work so well for me, granted in some of the sections I had a hard time figuring out how to move them at ALL but I'm sure it's just me and I'm not coordinated enough. I've also gotten stuck on a couple areas where I can't figure out how to make it do what I want it to do. I know it says you can 'play as' all of the characters....but I'm still working on that part. I know what I need to do but not how to do it. :)
Otherwise - it's going to keep me occupied for a while.
This game and the Super Mario are the best Mario's games ever. I stongly recomend it if you like playing Mario.
Yah I loved the original game for N64 but this was even better. I liked the fact that you could switch users. The graphics are good too. I like Mario. Please by this game. You will NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY.
I liked this game. It was very fun.

2. Can play as three other characters besides Mario (Luigi, Yoshi, Wario)
3. Extra levels
4. Extra Stars to collect
5. Minigames!!
6. Multiplayer mode
7. Sound
8. Controls
9. Characters can talk
10. Same courses from the original
Cons:
1. Learning how to control your character at first
2. Gets boring at times
3. Gets frustrating at times
4. Continuously having to switch characters
5. Trying to catch the Rabbits
6. Some courses are more difficult than the N64 version (examples: The Bowser worlds, Lava Land, Tick Tock Clock, & Cool, Cool, Mountain.)
7. Fingers may get tired of continuously pushing the D-Pad to control your character
8. Some mini-games are boring and stupid
9. Mini-games take forever to unlock
10. Beating Bowser on the Nintendo DS is VERY, VERY, VERY HARD

I liked this game, depsite the Cons. If you are a Mario freak, like I am, I would recommend you to buy, or at least, rent, this game. Especially if you liked the original. So, choose wisely.
