The new DS lite is a great upgrade to the Nintendo DS. It's more compact and the buttons are placed better. The larger stylus makes those precise "touches" much easier. The player fits better in the hands and makes playing the games much more comfortable.
plenty of games to play on the ds and the color now for girls too.
I purchased two of these - for my 9 and 10 year old nieces. Both sister's have let me know they have to pry the games from them! To hold the interest of these girls for that long makes it a perfect purchase!
I was very skeptical about purchasing this Nintendo DS because I am 66 years old and I thought what would people think. But this game has brought me so much enjoyment I am so glad I bought it. I buy the puzzle games, like Crosswords DS, Touchmaster, Milllionheir and they do help to keep your mind active. Also Personal Trainer is excellent. I am glad I bought it and will no doubt get may hours of pleasure from it. so any other seniors out there don't be afraid to invest in this. you won't be sorry.
Great Product! Lots of great games available to buy. Battery lasts long and the build in wireless so you can play with another DS or online is the BEST part. Highly Recommend!! A+
I'm glad I purchased from this seller. They sent it to me quickly as I asked and even sent extra stylluses. I like the personalized thank you they sent along also. It was nice to see a family picture and note from them. Thanks much! DS is in great condition, LOVE IT!
Though the GBA cartridges stick out the bottom, the feel, look and features of this system is the greatest! I also love being able to go to a download station and tryout games for free, even before the stores open in the mall. Nintendo has struck again with gaming innovation.
The DS in one word, Innovation.
Pure, uncut, originality. Sure, the DS doesn't have the horsepower of a PSP, but when you think about, why would you need a strong machine if its portable? Nintendo has never been about graphics anyway, its about the gameplay, and when it comes to the games on the DS agasinst the PSP, its pretty easy to see who comes out on top. The sound is pretty good, except I suggest headphones as the DS speakers are pretty poor sounding. The WiFi on the DS is very good, as opposed to the old cables for the Gameboys. One last thing, the battery life is GREAT!!!!
(A quick proviso: I don't own the original Nintendo DS so I can't compare that to the DS Lite.)
Unlike Sony and Microsoft, Nintendo has definitely taken some risks in its hardware design over the past few years, and now that all the next-generation consoles have been out for a while it's clear Nintendo has made some winners. The Nintendo DS/DS Lite is the most popular game console and it's pretty clear why.
First, about the hardware: the DS Lite is, as its name suggests, small, light, and easily portable. The clamshell design helps protect the two screens from damage when the console isn't being used, although obviously it's a bad idea to throw or intentionally drop it. The bottom screen is touch-sensitive and is rather accurate; you'll want to use the included stylus (or a Nintendo licensed stylus) to make sure you don't inadvertently damage the screen. Normal use of the stylus can scratch the bottom screen, so you may want to purchase protective filters to take the abuse instead. Both screens are well-lit, and you can actually adjust the brightness of the screens, if you want the battery to last longer, or if you find the brightest setting to be too bright. The built-in speakers are okay, but if you find their quality to be too low you can always plug in your own headphones. There is also a built-in microphone, as well as a microphone jack. The system is backwards compatible with Game Boy Advance games, but not Game Boy color or classic Game Boy games.
Also, unlike Sony and Microsoft, Nintendo has deliberately decided to keep the focus of its systems on playing games. Fortunately, the available selection of games for Nintendo DS is high-quality and varied. You can find games for more "casual" players, games for young children, "games" for learning languages or vocabulary, and, of course, more traditional video games. Because the hardware capabilities of the DS are roughly equivalent to the Nintendo 64, a lot of classic games from Super Nintendo and Nintendo 64 are being ported to the DS (often with new functionality), so there already is a large built-in library of excellent games available. There have also been a number of new games which take advantage of the touch-sensitive screen, some of which do so in truly innovative ways. The games are also quite affordable, usually costing between twenty and forty dollars. Some of the games I've played so far on the DS are as good as the best games I've played on the computer or any consoles, period, so game developers are clearly taking DS development seriously.
The DS Lite also has built-in Wi-fi and local wireless connectivity with other DS consoles, which really extends the playability of many games on the system. (For those of us old enough to remember Game Boy, the days of fiddling with link cables are thankfully over!) You can connect to the Internet if you have a wireless router or access to a Wi-fi hotspot, although the available features vary on a game-by-game basis. Some games feature true Internet play, while others have more limited Internet/multiplayer features.
In summary, if you're looking for a handheld with a variety of fun games, look no further than the DS Lite. The only competitor is the Sony PSP, which is slightly more expensive, but comes with a larger range of features for general media, such as music and movies. However the PSP and DS aren't really in direct competition, since they seem to be targeting different audiences. I would also say that the overall quality of games available on DS is slightly higher than the PSP, and of course the types of available games are much, much more diverse on the DS than the PSP.
Got this item as a Christmas present for my husband. Had been reading about it in AARP and the local newspaper about how great it is for keeping the mind sharp. The games are fun and my husband enjoys the challenge of trying to "beat the clock". After each session he can check to see if his "IQ" has improved. I've tried it also; it is easy to start using immediately. The only problem I had was with the voice recognition; my husband did not have that problem. (I think I was holding the device too close to my mouth when speaking into it.
Bought this for my little daughter's birthday.
She loves it and can't put it down.
I replaced my original DS with this DS Lite. My "original" was bought on release day, and survived several drops to the floor. All but that last fall, anyway :)
The new one is smaller, has a better battery life, and dimmable screen. It's great.
My 7yr old grandson loves his DS lite- he figured out how to use it very easily
My 8-yr old granddaughter loves the DS Lite I gave her for Christmas. She and her 11-yr old sister have lots of fun communicating back & forth to each other & giggling while the adults in the same room are clueless as to what's going on. The girlss have to get up early mornings to feed their "DS Pets". They are enjoying so much that their little sister is demanding a pink DS Lite for her 5th birthday & since she knows already how to use her sister's, her mother is buying her one.
Very good product. Purchased it for my daughter for Xmas. Would highly recommend.
