My grandchildren play this game all of the time and they love it. They never seem to tire of it.
This is the first game purchased for my 7 year old and it is a big hit. The main game is full of challenge and surprises. The mini games are varied and great fun and she especially loves the ability to play some of these classics with other kids using her single card download play.
This is a fantastic game. I have always loved the Mario Bros. I am only on level 5. The graphics are wonderful and the game fun. I do wish there was more areas to save a game though. Takes me awhile to get from one save to another and if I have to stop playing you have to do the areas over again. Still it is alot of fun.
I am definitely not a gamer, but I found this game to be very fun. It has a good mix of mild strategy and reckless improvisation. In general, the more strategy you employ the less frustration you will experience.
At first, you can save not only after Towers and Castles, but also after spending Star coins, so save those coins for when you really need to save after a tough level! Of course, you can always just close the DS lid and put the game to sleep anywhere you want.
The game is not too difficult to "beat," but that is only part of the fun. Once you beat big Bowser in the World 8 Castle you can save the game any time which comes in super handy when you go back to beat all levels. And that is quite a bit more difficult and time consuming since you must go through all 80 levels instead of the minimum 20 to beat the game. Beating all levels then allows infinite access to the Toad Houses which in turn nicely supports your next quest...
Collecting enough Star Coins (160) to unlock the secret background is more of a challenge and getting them all is the ultimate prize. I currently have 225 out of 240, not sure if I will bother with every last one though cuz some are pretty tough and it gets frustrating failing repeatedly on some of the coins.
Even so, the game can be really fun to play in short bursts, and also to sit and strategize on some of the harder secret exits and coins. I would highly recommend getting the very nicely done Nintendo Players Guide and looking at some user walk throughs for tips on some of the less obvious tactics.
My tip for the Item Toad houses: To get what you want hold the right direction key and time your jump based on the dark colored brick. Sooner gets you a super mushroom or fire flower. A little later gets the shell. And jumping at the very end or slightly hesitating nabs the mini mushroom. It's better to jump a little too soon than too late, but with some practice I found I can get what I want 90+% of the time. Don't worry, you'll get lots of practice!
Early on though you can just use Level 1-1 to power up and get 1ups, of course. As Mega Mario you should be able to nab 5 1ups every time if you time it right. And getting a fire flower into reserve is pretty simple too.
Anyway, take some time to explore the different worlds with Mario, Luigi and a lot of nasty critters!
This game has a combination of the original mario and the super mario 3. I bought this for my boyfriend and he loved it. I played the orginal mario when I was a kid and enjoyed this game myself. I would definitely recommend it.
The game takes a long time to finish, and is very funny.
It's an excellent game. I play it all the time with my son an d remember when I played it with my sisters long tieme agoooo!!!!
This game is, to say the least, a masterpiece. It builds on the classic gameplay of the older Mario games. I have a cheat for anyone reading this review before I start rating aspects of New Super Mario Bros.
Luigi Moves!
To play as Luigi and learn new moves, hold down R and
L before you select your file. Keep holding on as you
push A. You hear a Luigi sound! One of his exclusive
moves is an attack in which Luigi jumps higher than
usual. Jump once, and as you hit the ground, push A to
propel yourself into the air much higher than usual.

Overall: 5 STARS
Great game ... Lots of fun playing it... I would say it's better than the Original Mario Brothers...
EXCELLENT Deal from AMAZON.COM! Thanks!!!
I have invest a lot of time playing this game in the DS. Its well constructed. I recommend it
I am a big DS fan and I love this game. First off, it is a fun gameplay with lots of levels and eight worlds. It also includes a bazillion minigames. Next it allows for all the mini games to be multiplayer and it has a special mode which allows for fun capture the star, all which can be done using one card! The only drawback is limited saving(only at castles and towers) But I jave found that if you get 5 stars and buy a mushroomhouse or level, it will let you save your progress. All in all this is on great game that I recomend to anyone looking for some fun.
While the 3D Mario games that have come out since the release of Super Mario 64 are definitely fun in their own right, I've always been of the opinion that Mario is best suited to a 2D side-scrolling environment. New Super Mario Brothers combines the best of both worlds, bringing in the cool moves introduced by the 3D games while giving a gameplay experience that's on par with classics like Super Mario Brothers 3 and Super Mario World.
The plot of the game is familiar, to say the least. Princess Peach has been kidnapped yet again, this time by Bowser Junior, and it's up to Mario (or Luigi, who is accessible through a code) to save her. Like the Mario games of old, there is a world map and plenty of secret items, giving lots of reasons to go through the levels multiple times. The 3D graphics look excellent, and the variety of moves including the butt-stomp and the wall jump are welcome additions. In addition to the usual power-ups of the super mushroom, the fire flower, and the invincibility star, the game adds a mini-mushroom that allows Mario to enter special areas and walk on water, a blue shell that allows extra protection and the ability to rocket yourself across the screen like a koopa shell, and -- my personal favorite -- a mega mushroom that makes Mario grow to enormous size and allows him to smash anything on the screen for a short time. These power-ups are so fun that they even manage to make up for the fact that there's no leaf or cape that allows for flight.
The game is relatively short, and can be beaten straight through in just a few hours. However, as I mentioned earlier, there are many secrets, including two entire worlds, that can be unlocked after Bowser and son have been defeated. Additionally, the array of mini-games is an entertaining diversion, even though they're the same games from the DS's version of Super Mario 64. The versus mini game is worth special mention, as it features Mario and Luigi fighting against each other across a variety of levels. That mode can be quite fun, especially when crazy items like the mega mushroom come into play.
All in all, New Super Mario Brothers provides some classic gameplay with the refreshing twist of new tricks and better graphics. It easily stands alongside the best games of the Mario franchise, and serves as an excellent introduction for young players who may not have experienced a side-scrolling Mario game before.
I bought this for my 6 yo who couldn't play her other games bc she couldn't read what the game was telling her to do on the screen. She loves it! My 8 yo kept trying to take it to play with so I bought a second one. Great product for all ages
well who doesn't love mario but my son is really crazy about all mario's games
I love this game!!!!! It's challenging and fun. Sometimes it takes me a lot of attempts to beat a level, but it's great when I get through. It's addictive and I never get tired of playing it.
